it's subtle, but there are going to do this sort of thing over and over and over again

the GOP going to ride that race line as hard as they fucking can

it's a pretty dangerous game they're playing

i'm interested to see how it all turns out

Campaigns play up the other side's mistakes all the time. I can think of Sen. Allen and his macaca statement, when Richard Petty bumped a car out on 40 when he was running for Sec. of State...sometimes the best thing you can do is to sit back and allow your opponent to win the race for you.

That his pastor and close confidant of over 20 years is an anti-American rambling nutcase.

It's the church he picked to go to. Or are you insinuating that the black church in general is as batshit crazy as Rev. Wright?

besides you're deviating from the original point of the thread, that the GOP is going to connect Obama with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to stir up racist sentiments

they know white people don't trust AL and Jesse, that's why they've been keeping such a low profile lately

but the GOP is going to try as hard as they care to make Obama = Al and Jesse

just watch

Likewise, the Dems will play the victimization line as hard as they fucking can.

That's a dangerous game as well.

Both strategies will ultimately backfire with a lot of independents and moderates. I honestly think the side that loses the general election will be the one that overplays their hand.

[Edited on April 29, 2008 at 6:38 PM. Reason : "racism" meaning victims of racism]

they want race to be a non-issue

I have read numerous editorials lately about the "racist media" and the "racist attacks on Wright / Obama".

This thread is a good example as well, considering that it's pretty clear that you are misinterpreting Galen's comments to paint the GOP as race baiters.

Obama should go to church, of course. He should do a better job of picking the church he attends, and one that isn't ran by a raving attention whore of a lunatic.

As for connecting Obama with Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, I think you're reading too much into that. This guy is saying that they are more mainstream, perhaps, and he should use their prowess to distance himself from his pastor.

You're crying wolf in order to use race to your advantage, not the other way around.

two of the people in this thread title are two of the most notorious race baiters in us politics in the last 10 years...neither of them have anything to do with the GOP, to say the least

And it will backfire among a lot of independents.

Likewise, the Dems will play the "racism" card in response to any criticism of Obama on race issues. If they overdo it (and they usually do), it will turn off a lot of independents who are tired of hearing the victimization mentality of the left.

I don't give a shit about Al and Jesse

the GOP is going to try to attach then to Obama

to raise up the sentiments that YOU JUST EXPRESSED in voters

that's the entire point

You are misreading the statement by Galen. He is saying that Obama should encourage black leaders not to throw fuel on the fire of this Rev Wright media mess.

It is actually very good advice.

i'm not misreading anything

all I see there is blah blah blah Obama blah blah blah Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

you're going to start seeing a lot of that in the future

so nastoute, you're basically saying the GOP is going to race bait until November...by tying two of the biggest race baiters to Obama

exactly.

Now go back and re-read the quote. He's saying that the best thing Obama could do would be to make sure that Jesse and Al don't jump into the fray.

This is true. But it hasn't happened yet.

BTTT this thread when you have a legit example.

I don't care what the quote says, this thread has nothing to do with it nor does it have anything to do with Reverend whoever.

...

this was said by a GOP strategist

this is a legitimate example

they're probably not going to be overt about it
