I seem to have lost a lot of razors to rust before they go dull. The worst part was today, a brand new razor that I haven't used yet was rusted. Anyone have this problem or know how to fix this? It's getting annoying and expensive.

I've had lots of disposables rust after one use, but the "real" razor ones have never done it.

hmmm may want to check them before you buy em...take a good glance to see if there are any signs of rusting!

Could have just bought some old razors?

high moisture in your house?? leaving them wet constantly or something?

i dunno, i've never had that problem and I use an old timey safety razor with a pack of 20 blades in a container that takes me a good 6 months or more to go through and i never have problems with rust

Well when I first got this razor it wasn't rusted or anything. But I was using a desposable razor at the time and I figured I would use it until it went dull so I wouldn't waste it.

But it might be the high moister level in our house. The AC is broken and hasn't been running and with the large about of rain we've had lately that could mean it's really humid in our house, could have something to do with it, plus I leave my razor in the shower on that little thing that you can hang up on the shower wall with suction cups.

I've been using the same razor since New Year's.

All you have to do is keep your razor clean and dry.

I also don't use that little plastic cover that comes with a lot of razor blades now-a-days, I feel like it just holds in moisture.

Or you can get yo'self an Infinity razor

Are you storing them under the sink? WAY too much moisture. Move to drawer, profit.

also remeber that I'm a chick using chick razors, and those barber style razors aren't going to cutting it for my legs! One slip and I'm losing a lot of blood!

I'm using the venus embrace. When I put the new razor on it, that wasn't rusted, it was an amazing shave, my legs are crazy smooth. This is the thing that makes shaving legs totally worth it, cause it really sucks (especially when you have fat legs like me and a lot of surface area).

^^No, it comes with one of those storage things that comes with suction cups that you leave on the wall in my shower. I guess I should stop leaving it in my shower.

yea I'd try not leaving it in the shower first.. just a ton of moisture in there

I'm still surprised it's rusting that fast

Could my water have anything to do with it. I'm using city water, so I didn't think I would have to worry about having hard water with too much iron in it, cause that could cause rusting fater.

I also don't shave everyday, could that have something to do with it? I shave maybe two or three times a week.

I shave in the shower and leave my razor in the shower and i haven't had any issues with my fusion blades.

are you rinsing the razor well after use? soap residues could play a part.

Yeah I rinse. I mean I guess it's just the high humidity in my house. The lack of AC and the need to keep the windows open could lead to that.

somewhat off topic.

After seeing Bruce Springsteen sunday night i didn't shave until this morning and left the soulpatch. I'm gonna pretend i'm the Boss with this thing unti i get called out with it or i call myself out. It will take it another week to fully blossom though

I use one of these for my face (all up, against the grain. damn my tough hair) every weekday. I usually replace the blade once a week so i only get about 5 shaves from it. Its not that its not sharp anymore, its just not sharp enough. Even after 1-2 shaves I easily notice a difference in sharpness. I could take it more than a week, but then I have to use more strokes to remove the stubble. I like my face as smooth as possible. Even though I can still see the stubble (under the skin maybe) after each shave.

I used to, but that got old. Now that it's summer, I will have a higher razor/shave cream bill than usual.

We should try to become the people that test out the razors! Get that shit for free!

for rust you're going to have to store the blade in pure alcohol (or close to it) after you use it. displaces rust causing water/air & kills germs.

i do that, change out the alcohol a couple of times per week.

no rust, a longer lifespan between blade changes.

get dat 90% alcohol, not the 70% stuff at the sto.

[Edited on April 30, 2008 at 11:39 AM. Reason : or you can pay lots of money to have cryo treated blades which DO last longer.]

any alcohol that has the least amount of water in it will.

what you are looking to do is displace the air that accelerates the rust after you use it.

no air/no rust.

you do realize that king of shaves and the other assorted companies produce a similar product that you can purchase in stores with no waiting/less markup. i use shaving oil and a non foaming gel.

A/C will help as it puts a lot of dry air in the house, but if you have a humidity problem you should really look at adding a dehumidifier or two before mold and mildew take over.

Casey you are officially now too high maintanance for me!

I mean obviously I shave before I come to Raleigh, but since I've been tanning I don't need to shave as often, the dark hairs don't show up as fast with tan skin as they did when I looked like a ghost.
I deal with the prickles, shaving is just a pain in the ass for me. Normally I shave my lower legs three times a week, and my upper legs once a week. My upper legs hair doesn't grow as fast or show as bad. Plus it's still the time of the year where the alternation between pants and shorts, and since the only reason I shave my legs is for the superficial reason because it's what people think is pretty, I don't have to shave that often.
Once summer starts and I wear short more often I'll probably go to every other day of shaving.

I just took my razor out of the shower and put it in the drawer, hopefully it won't rust as fast.
