after reading the liberal N&O yesterday it pissed me off to find out that Roy Williams was illegally watching a unc pick up game and the NCAA is not doing a fucking thing about it. yeah barack obama was there but a rule is a rule.

this is the same damn reason why we were not eligible for the 1973 ncaa tournament because an assistant coach of ours was caught watching/playing a pick up game with David Thompson. That year we went 27-0, won the acc tournament, yet couldnt go to the tournament.

fuck unc, fuck the ncaa, and hell yeah im done with exams. i needed a place to vent. thanks for listening.

Yeah nothing should be done about this. The only reason I care at all is because it was probably premeditated, but I don't know how many players were there. If Roy called and asked like 2-3 of his players to come, then fine, but if it was like 6-8 or more than I could see it being a bigger thing. Or if I'm totally wrong and Obama just happened to stumble upon a group of people and say "hey, lets play some ball" and Roy just happened to be there, then that's cool too. But since the NCAA has always been over the top, I just have to wonder if the exact same thing would have happened at a smaller school, with a worse record over the last 10 years, with less national TV exposure. It probably would, but I guess we'll never know.

It was premeditated. There was press there. If I was Sid I'd do the exact same thing and have Obama come play with the team, sit above the practice court at the Dail Basketball Facility and not say anything, unlike Roy who said "you're leaving the future President of the United States wide open" (which would constitute instruction). Invite WRAL to cross Western and take some shots/video. Then see what the NCAA has anything to say. He'd have the backing of every non-UNC ACC fan and probably the rest of college basketball's fans if they did have something to say.

it is pretty lame that the n&o ran a story about college inn trying to find something wrong, couldnt, and ran the story anyway on the same day as our spring game despite an overwhelming lack of evidence. then unc breaks a rule and even admits to it (for the record, the pickup game doesnt bother me one bit) and its ignored. the only angle that really bothers me here is the n&o.

pretty sure it just can't be organized by the school/coaches. If some players want to get together and play a pickup game I don't see why there would be anything to stop them

In Skywalker, David Thompson says it was because Beidenbach who participated in some pickup games to even up teams. Since he was an assistant coach, the NCAA said that he was "trying out" David Thompson before school starts. Even though he had already signed an LOI.
