So I'm waiting for an oil change and the guy next to me has a baby that can't be more than a year old with her ears pierced. Just seems way too early for that stuff. What's next? Baby tramp stamps?

I like earrings. More than 1 on an ear is too much for me though.

if you ask the ladies, it's normal to have them pierced as a child.

My dad said no to it so I couldn't do it until I was like 14.

I think it's kind of sketch to have kids with pierced ears, my sisters and I weren't allowed to get them pierced before we were 13

Any place that'll do 'em on a little kid will make them nasty and uneven.

My mom waited until I was 12 then forced me to have it done at the Drs office! Fuckers made them uneven as hell and hurt like a mofo then they got infected. wait until the kid asks for it, then needle piercing FTW. I had to get a second set to make how uneven the first are less noticable. I'm considering a third as well, or just a 3rd in one ear for the same reason.

1. Thank god I'm not a girl
2. What does it matter? The baby didn't choose it. Her parents did.

I do not see an issue with it... It is actually easier to get thier ears pierced when they are little because they cannot feel the pain as much as when they get older. Kind of like how our parents use to prefer for us to get chicken pox before we got too old to be able to scratch (even thought now children are suppose to get vac against them..lmao). Anyays, I had mine pierced by the age of 2, and they are fine to this day.

my little sister has them pierced at or before 1 years old.

Again, its more of a custom for us... or at least thats what i was lead to believe. Guys with piercings are looked down upon ( cause they believe a guy with a piercing is a fag )

...is trashy! I don't like it and it's soooo "mean" to the child. *sigh* I didn't get mine til I was like 10 or 12 or something. But I think any time after they are a few years into school is good...but 10 is the prime age! But dah well! I happened to hear/see a baby getting her's done...she screamed sooooooo loud! OMG

I got my first holes done when I was two, no problems. but then again, I now have 10 piercings in my ears/face.

The baby can feel the pain just as much, they just don't remember it.

Piercing guns are extremely dangerous and unsanitary. Wait until the kids is older and can get pierced at a shop that does needle piercing instead of that gun shit.

okay, good point about the guns. they're not too horrible if it's just a lobe piercing though... I had a cartilage done with a gun when I was 15 and it took about 2 years to heal. I had a much bigger industrial done (another cartilage piercing... two holes) with a needle and it healed within 6 months, even after I smashed the hell out of it on a rollercoaster.

Its more of a cultural thing. My people have their girls' ears pierced way before they are 1 yr old, but we don't have photos of our half nude 15 y/o daughters in a magazine either.

The gun in the lobe is no big deal. I've never had any problem with the two in each ear I have, and I've never had any friends with that problem.

I don't see anything wrong with a baby having her ear's pierced. Only thing I'd be concerned with is her ripping them out by accident.

part of our culture means it is done by the majority and looked upon favorably

then there is counterculture, which is what this would fall under

and then there is anticulture

and i only went to that sociology class like 4 times but this was one day i was there

i think my mom and her friend got drunk and took me to go get my ears pierced when i was a baby. but then one of the earings fell out and they didnt notice it until it had closed up. so my mom took out the other one, but that one never fully closed up, and you can still see the hole if you look at my ear. then my mom wouldn't let me get my ears pierced until i was like 10, but then i only wore earings until about highschool. now i almost never wear earings, the backs of them really bother me. when they use a gun it's pretty much guaranteed to be uneven, and they will be at different angles. That's what pisses me off the most about mine. they are at really fucked up angles and it's obvious with the captive bead rings in that the first set of holes were a shit job.

So at best it won't be quality, at worse it increases the risk of side effects and takes much longer to heal. The earrings the pierce with are not sharp, blunt force is harder on the tissue than using a sharp needle to make the hole.

I've had both done, and think the guns should be outlawed.

I think getting your ears pierced should be a choice. Doing them on kids or babies isn't wrong, but I would probably wait.

It really does look trashy when really young babies have their ears pierced.

Why the rush, let the kid get em when she wants em.

If they were done with a gun, yes. They probably aren't that perfect either. The angle is almost always off with gun piercings.

I actually got mine done when I was 9 months old. The only issue with it getting it done so young is that your hole is higher up and not really in the middle like the normal ones.

actually thats not true. They used a gun with all my ear piercings (I have 7) and none of them are uneven or in a weird angle.

You are lucky.

Who do you think is more likely to get it right? The teen at piercing pagoda that learned how to use the gun yesterday, or the professional with a whole portfolio for you to look at?

I'll go to a tattoo and piercing shop just because the stuff is all disposable or autoclaved. I don't want some nasty bitch rubbing their hands all over an earring before it's shoved through my lobe in the way that takes the longest possible time to heal.

Then there's also the problem of allergies, you can get a needle piercing with Ti to make sure it'll heal well, can't do that with the gun. Took over a year for my ears to heal from the gun piercing because I have a really bad nickel allergy but didn't know it at the time.

They have a pointed end, but they aren't anything near as sharp as a needle. Unless the dr's office that did mine had super shitty blunt earrings for extra painful piercing. Damn I need to remind my mom how much I hated that.

After the gun, I seriously did not believe that my ears were actually pierced with the needles until I saw them in the mirror. Huge difference. If you've had gun and needle piercings then you'll never go back to the nasty gun shit again.

I think the purpose of gun piercing is to so thoroughly traumatize the kid that they won't get any socially unacceptable piercings later.

lol, i've never had an ear done with the needle except my industrial. i know the needle is definitely better.

and in spite of 8 piercings total done with the gun (i took two out), i still have a giant ring in my lip. apparently, i wasn't traumatized enough.

this entire quote is just completely wrong.

a) babies can still feel pain even though they can't verbalize it. shocker, i know.
b) the reason why parents want you to get chicken pox young isn't because you won't scratch. when does one get old enough to scratch anyway? babies definitely know how to scratch...as well as feel pain.

I think the little gold bracelets are pretty pointless. I mean, they're babies: they like to pull things, they twist jewelry, they're going to break it.

piercing a girl's ears when she's an infant is bad.

but cutting off part of a boy's dick when he's an infant is a-ok.

gotcha.

both are done for purely aesthetic reasons.

I'm sorry, I don't see anyone giving their opinion on circumcision in this thread. So how would you know what we think is "okay" or not?
