May 6th these will be the new speeds on the RoadRunner system.

Standard: 7 Mbps / 384 Kbps
Turbo: 10 Mbps / 512 Kbps

The upload in this area is a damn joke.

Will we have to reset the modem to get this?
You know - teh unplug and wait routine?

Yeah you will need more than likely to reboot the modem to get the new config file loaded. But RoadRunner tends to reboot your modem every few days anyways. So soon everyone would have the new speeds locked in.

Has anyone checked out http://www.tcniso.net and tried their latest and greatest modems on the local network?

If you are referring to TCNISO's site, then yes a few years ago. It was back in the day where there was 6 or so steps to complete in order to establish a connection. But it did work, unfortunately I was super eager to get speed and uncapped the modem to something crasy 10/10Mbps or close. Then of course went off to to taught my new found speeds on the speedtest sites. Yep I had whatever I uncapped to. But heres where it got shitty, in order to go back to the "isp" settings you have to power off the modem and let it re-download the config from the TFTP server. I was on the network uncapped only for 1 hour or so, but durring that time somewhere on the system it pegged me and took my modems MAC ID out of the allowed devices on the network. So on reboot, I had the beautiful flashing ONLINE light.

LOL, I think that you can do all kinds of neat shit on the TCNISO's modems nowadays.

^ so what happened - did you have to call TWC and tell them you messed up? Or admit what you did so it would work again.

Ohh, yeah I fessed up to it, remember this was back in the day where most people didnt know that modems could be uncapped. I think I said something like, I downloaded a program that was susposed to increase the download speeds or some shit. The guy just added my MAC back into the allowed list, and boom I was back in busness.

Well, I saw this information on another forum and called TWC to confirm. Man I was pissed when she said that the upload was staying the same.

If they upped the cap to say about 14-15 I would still be subscribing to turbo again.

Upload speed does suck, but the increase in download is nice.

Before the reset:
I am not going to do a reboot since the modem is up in my attic and I do not feel like climbing up there.
So I guess I will have to wait. How come my upload is so much faster than others? Im in North Raleigh with the basic RR service.

^^ ok this is odd - When I am logged on to my VPN for work thats the speed I get. But when I log off it is comparable to everyone else.

Can anyone explain that?

After the reboot and not on VPN

it looks like when you're on your VPN, it thinks your ISP is Verizon, hence the FiOS question. Your overall speed is getting capped by Verizon, or something

No its the opposite - I get a faster upload when on the VPN

On VPN - the upload got even faster now.

It could be the way the applet runs that the upload never actually comes from you but comes from somewhere else inside the VPN? Maybe it's effectively testing your download bandwidth w/ overhead from the VPN but it's testing some server+individual user cap elsewhere inside the VPN?

at work. it usually goes slow as hell, i guess it's our company's network setup or something

so is RRLite going to get any faster? that'd be pretty sweet.

something that tests with a larger file for a longer period of time - don't know of any of these automatic sites that do that - would be something you would know from using your internet connection long enough

^i don't believe this test is crap. Whenever i use it i get almost exactly what TW says i will get.

I'm supposed to get 10Mbps/512Kbps. That seems pretty close, assuming there's other random things going on.
