i think it's starting to appear how ridiculous sentencing is on possessing small quantities of pot (under 4 oz's). prisons are full of people with minor charges.

what politicians are pro-weed legalisation? and are we close . . . ?

Me too. Imagine the potency of pot made off of a corporate business model and the industries that would pop up. Artisans and engineers could create all sorts of bongs and other puffing devices. Rolling papers would be better. Convenience stores would do AMAZING business. Our tax dollars could be spent on education rather than overcrowded prisons. Clothing would be a lot cheaper. It would change America for the better.

And it wouldn't create a generation of stoners, since the social stigma of smoking pot will be around forever. Only losers get blazed anyway. It would be awesome.

there is no real reason to tax it anymore than other controlled substances

they already engineer some pretty potent hybrid strains in the netherlands, canada, us govt, etc...enough people smoke nowadays that there has BEEN a big market for ornate bongs, specialized papers, etc

Yes, but with it legalized, it can be taxed, which means more money for schools or government wasting.

The problem is it'd have to be a change at the federal level; despite state laws (Cally) that may decriminalize it, the Feds are constantly going to fuck with people at their discretion.

Berkely County in California recently declared themselves a "medical marijuana sanctuary" with like an 80% vote from the citizens, where the county police would actually not cooperate with federal authorities in the event of their interference with medical marijuana distribution.

Imagine one of these on Hillsoborough St.

There's a few automated dispensaries in Cally, with prepaid accounts / strand preferences for perscribed users. This would be the shit

Eh. Kids want to do illegal substances when they're teenagers. I rather let them have the satisfaction of being a rebel after smoking something harmless like pot instead of jumping straight into coke.

^^^The CHASS majors would never go to class and just get high. Actually, they would continue skipping class and getting high, but just be doing it on Hillsborough Street rather than UT.

Berkeley County? Huh? There is no such thing... did the city of Berkeley do this? And was it recent? Because I have not heard anything about it.

There are medicinal marijuana shops in San Fran that have been coming under scrutiny recently though...

You can't become addicted to weed and, as far as I know, there aren't any long-term detriments in continued use of the Wacky Tabaccy. Alcohol has both and it ruins people's lives.

(in on page one )

canada's new douchebag government just re-classified weed as a harder drug (class d, not c, I think)

against all recommendations from elsewhere within the canadian government

(it still might get a little worse before it gets better)

but yeah

you can buy weed from vending machines in certain places in california now

shit is happening

I honestly couldn't care less about it... but in the interest of other people it's too stringent.

^^ I assume those dispensers are in licensed doctors offices only?

even if it is

it's nowhere near as flawed as the "make the world safe from the harms of drugs by prohibiting them" argument

Look, I'm all for legalization, but I'm tired of people saying this. yes, you can get addicted to weed, and anything else that releases dopamine in your brain. you can get addicted to base jumping, cookies, heroin, weed, and sex.

tax it and use the money to subsidize gas costs. something like "The more pot you people buy, the less you will have to pay in gas taxes" or something like that.

you're right...i assume not everyone is unproductive while high, but my experience with those i know who do toke on a fairly regular basis (i don't know that i'd call them potheads) is that they're pretty damn near unproductive

that said, i can't argue with a friend of mine who WAS a pothead and made dean's list all 3.5 years he was here (graduated early)...he would smoke a few hours before and immediately after finishing an assignment, but he wasn't "high" while working on his stuff

you could replace the words 'pot users' with any hobby.

like mountain biking.

if mountain bikers can't think of anything better to do with their time, at least they can pay for the privilege of being useless.

or chess players.

if chess players can't think of anything better to do with their time, at least they can pay for the privilege of being useless.

basically, stupid fucking comment.
