Makers Mark is my drink of choice out at a club or bar because no one ever orders it, so bartenders are more likely to pour more of it when you order... if its something like Jack or Jager that everyone orders they get tired of switching out bottles, try to make them last longer, but when they have to dust off the Makers... you get a healthy portion

^^sure it does. If you are constantly having to pour a particular liquor you probably get tired of prepping a new bottle, so either consciously or subconsciously you probably pour less thus saving yourself some effort.

But if its a bottle that might last weeks then you dont mind pouring a lot

^ I'm old, but even I'm not old enough for cognac... hell, my dad isnt

^As someone who works at a bar that goes through about 10 bottle of Smirnoff a night...that thought never goes into my head (and I've never heard a bartender mention anything even relating to that). It takes a decent bartender almost zero time to change a bottle.

The only way you might get extra Makers is if you ask for it neat or on the rocks. A bartender sometimes feels bad giving a customer what looks like a small amount of alcohol, even though its the same amount that person would get in a vodka soda.

well, I have had plenty tell me otherwise, especially jager. Or even that they pour more just cause its something different

To counter that on another point...a Makers bottle is a bitch to open (compared to an easy screw top that most liquor bottles have). So I'd rather pour less on a Makers so I wouldn't have to open it.

I also think bartenders tend to pour heavier on the high-dollar stuff anyways. They know most customers buy the high dollar stuff because it tastes better, so they're going to want you to taste a lot of it. I definitely don't want to over-pour someone some Aristocrat or Early Times.
