^ I STILL WIN!!1

^^ Thank you! Yes. And there are few (maybe no) game animals that taste better than a wild turkey! I haven't had any in a while, and I can't wait for next Sunday so we can eat him!

Though they may not reason, they are exceptionally hard to hunt. If it could be due to one reason it would be because they are not in the least bit curious. They can feel when something is not right, too. They are far more hard to hunt then deer. Deer don't mind a little movement, you can move very slowly even if you're being stared down by a deer - but you can not move a muscle when a turkey has his eye on you. And you can even shoot at a deer, and if they're curious enough, they will just stand there while you chamber another round and fire again.

But really, you can't compare apples and oranges...

Squirrel is fun I guess because you can move, walk, talk, etc. It's not my favorite. All hunting can be boring and make you want to sleep, but as son as you stop paying attention - BAM! Something pops up!

haha, I just noticed my crazy hair in my pic.

They're cool to watch. I've seen 17 this hunting season, only got to shoot this one, but I got to observe the rest and they're definitely cool critters.

And as y'all know, I worked on a turkey farm for 2 years... they're not near as awesome as wild ones! Farm turkeys have to be AI'd, they won't even breed on their own!

i still maintain that hunters who justify what they do as "sport" or "for the challenge" should be forced to hunt with their bare hands and a knife. then it'd be a real fucking sport. could you imagine tracking a deer for like 3 days then finally getting it? that'd be rewarding. otherwise it's just sitting still waiting on some dumbass animal to wonder in front of you.

for example, there was a guy in friday's N&O that killed a big ass buck from 25 yards. 75 feet. is that even a challenge? i've never been hunting, but that seems like it'd be comparable to tossing a stone in a lake.

^^^^ I'm not going to argue with you (yet again on the same point you ALWAYS bring), but there is no sitting and waiting for turkey. Why would there have been a story in the N&O on Friday when deer are loong out of season and all the bucks antlers are long gone, (some may be beginning to grow back though)? That doesn't make any sense.

Haha, true. Just because something has instincts doesn't mean that it isn't fucking stupid.

I've got nothing against hunting, I think it's fine, we're higher up on the evolutionary ladder, it's ok for us to kill other animals for food or population control.

i think a turkey is the about lowest on the totem pole in terms of intelligence amongst the animal kingdom.

i mean if it let bethaleigh kill it, how smart could it be

why not just buy an organic turkey from the market. same difference, eh. and you don't even have to dress like an idiot to kill it.

Just because it says organic does not mean that it is wild. You should also read up a little more on the qualifications for farm raised animals to be 'organic' and 'free range'. There is a distinctly different taste between wild turkey and any sort of farm raised, store bought turkey. Same way for rabbit.

It really depends on what your definition of 'intelligent' is, in your opinion, because its very relative. Is it because they stand in the rain, or because they shit in the woods? In my experience, they're not stupid, but they are not mammals and therefore do not have any sort of reason.

So, how about some of you list your qualifications for "intelligent" in this case. And without bringing other animals into it as examples.

^ Thanks! Winchester Supreme #5

who cares enough to drill down the taste of turkey? we're talking about turkey? turkey? not practice, Turkey. there's not much too it. instead of pretending to be Elmer Fud, how about just going to Whole Foods or something and dropping $15 bucks on a fresh turkey. we're civilized and progressive now. there's enough turkey in the market for all of us. there is no shortage.

^^^ Do it! I think everyone should do it at least once in their life. The ticks really suck (no pun intended) in the spring turkey season, but its well worth it!

^^ I can't wait to eat him! We're eating him next Sunday.

i'm not bothered by it. hunt turkey all you want. i just don't see the logic behind it is all. unless, it was like a religious slaughter or hunting because you really needed the food i think it's a wasted kill.

there's not really anything admirable about hunting a turkey down and killing him with a "winchester rifle".
