true but ford didn't make v6 crown vic. and chevy made 4.3 caprice.
hence the impala only sported the lt1
but ford also had the 5.4l as an option as well

^^^^^wrong, wrong, and more wrong. the car gk2004 posted is a 9c1. lt1/4l60e. just like the impala. like tawaitt said, the 4.3 was a scaled down lt1 v8.

there was also no factory 5.4 crown vic. prove it. at least not in north america, i think the australian falcon had one.

ive seen the 5.4 in a cop car. maybe it was only a limited thing here in the states but i know it was in production over sees.

I'm going to venture what you saw was not factory-produced. I am reasonably sure that there was never a factory 5.4 Panther...I know that for a while they were discussing shoving a V-10 into the extended "livery" version of the CV, but nothing ever came of that.

It is a somewhat common swap...I know that some CV guys and at least one Marauder have had the supercharged 5.4 out of the Lightning installed. But I'd have to see hard proof before I'll believe it was a factory job.

Nope, never had a 5.4 in my vic, never claimed, just a box stock 4.6 with underdrives.

and as far as I know I was the only dood at carolina Mustang with a crown vic.

Yeah ford never mde a 5.4 int eh vic, it actually does nto fit(without alot of mods) as it hits the brake booster and the windshield wiper motor/linkages

That's because they're still using the old 2-valve heads, among other things. People have been saying for years to use the 3v variant from the Mustang, who knows why they don't listen...

What I find strange is the replacement strategy, or lack thereof, for the P71 Vic. Obviously the model is near the end of its life, I'm not sure exactly but I think I remember hearing that either 2009 or 2010 will be the last year. But if I've got my facts straight, I think the replacement for the Panther will be built on the platform that they're using for the upcoming Lincoln MKS, and I don't think there is a V8 planned for that platform. For the civilan models I know the top engine in the MKS (and possibly in the Ford/Mercury variants) will be a biturbo 3.5 V6, which is all well and good, but for damn sure law enforcement is not going to want a forced induction motor. So you're left with an NA V6, which will probably be fine for a cruiser, but for a pursuit vehicle? Is Ford abandoning that market to the V8 Chargers and Impalas, and if so, are they even trying to stay in the law enforcement market? (Because I'd assume any department running V8 GM/Chrysler products will probably go with the same manufacturer for any V6 models they order...)

^^ Who cares, newer V6's are making the same power as those outdated V8's. I think it's just a cop penis issue about having a V8. I'm pretty sure police fwd Impala's are faster to 60 than the Crown Vic's. Those cops don't need gas hogs anyway, stick them in a Prius for all I care.
