so lame. not really sure why they'd do that. Not that many benefits for a band like them to sign with a major label aside from promotion and a signing bonus. They're going to spend so much money making the album and then columbia is going to take a huge chunk of their touring money, which as everyone knows, is their bread and butter.
Not to mention that working with Rick Rubin is fucking gay. Very bad move in my opinion. I hope I'm wrong, but this has spoon written all over it.

yeah, i don't know if it's the best financial move for them, but i'm sure that's not their sole motivator here. from my understanding, their deal with ramseur was a 50/50 split, which is a hell of a lot better than they're gonna get from columbia. they'll have to sell a ton more records to make as much as they would have on ramseur, but that's not really unlikely. some of their new material has some radio potential, i just hope rr put too much of a sheen on it.

I agree with you FanatiK, they have been migrating this direction for awhile. Emotionalism is a great album but the sound is much cleaner than anything previous. I think its a good idea to test the waters and get a little more publicity. Some bands go this route and lose sight of whats important and playing live to small venues packed with loyal fans. I don't see that with these guys. I just hope the RR production doesn't lose that avett feel and vocal styling.

Rick Rubin has become an absolute disaster over the last few years. I wouldn't be that excited about this at all if I was a big Avett Brothers fan.

They've always been hit or miss for me, anyway.
