the company bought a lot of them as a donation because one of the employees has cancer, and gave them away to all the other employees...if i don't wear it, i look like i don't care (which i don't), but if i do, i look like a douchebag

if you really don't care, then you won't care about wearing it

Leave it on your desk and say that you don't wear it because it:

a) Pulls on the hair on your arm
b) Manages to snag anything you get close to
c) Irritates your skin
d) Whatever other bullshit you want to muster up

i don't care about the livestrong foundation, or the guy who has cancer (who i've never even seen), or wearing a bracelet to "honor" him...i do, however, care about avoiding pissing people off because of their silly notions

You could find another one that you wouldn't mind wearing and then say that you are already committed to one cause and you don't want that cause thinking you are cheating on it with another cause.

are you serious? how does wearing a yellow wristband equal doing something "nice"? in what way does it benefit him? if i offered to make him dinner one night while he's going through chemo, THAT would be nice...this is just dumb

I support the cause and all, so I avoided all the different color bracelets by getting one silver bangle!! It's way prettier

1. Find someone less famous than you.

2. Get their bracelet for free.

3. ????????

4. Profit

fuck awareness. if your workplace actually cared, they'd do something and donate money or whatnot instead of making everyone "aware" that some dude has cancer.

"hey, look at todd! He has fucking cancer! lets all pity him!"

^^I think that's what his workplace was doing by buying the livestrong wristbands. The money you spend on them goes to a cancer thing a ma bob

the dude with cancer is going to come up to you and ask why aren't you wearing it

and you're going to be all like it pulls my arm hair

and he's going to be like yeah, that totally sucks, way worse than MOTHERFUCKING CANCER

then he will feel good about owning you for the rest of the day

so, really, you are doing your part to help him

^^^^ so the $1 towards the bracelette gets about $0.10 to the charity, and the rest to making, shipping and filling the companies larder. or you could just give the guy $1.

^^^^^ they arent being made to, they are being guilted into through peer pressure. which is worse.

^^^^ haha

^^ pretty much, yeah...i'd happily donate $10 to the cause if he needed it (really, i assume our health care covers it, but i could be wrong)...but who would i donate to? they spent money and time buying these stupid bracelets instead of setting up something more useful like a "todd's got cancer" fund

you should show this thread to "todd" and get his take on it. odds are he knows that only a miniscule portion of the bracelet proceeds go towards fighting cancer and would much rather you bought him a beer after work one day.

instant gratification- "Todd" is happy because you bought him a beer. You are happy because you didn't join the bracelet bandwagon.

^^^ then you really can't lose. If you haven't seen him, odds are the people working around you haven't either. If they ask why you aren't wearing the bracelet, say you take him out for drinks once every so often, and that he appreciates that a lot more than some insignificant fucking bracelet. Who knows- the whole office could end up taking turns taking this guy out for drinks, at which point he will seek you out and publicly herald you as his hero for starting the tradition.

and then you can sit at your desk and bask in the glory of receiving praise for not doing jack shit.

everyone wins.

Well at least your not denying that you're a tool.

Secondly, it seems like its more hassle to make a thread and argue with people on here than just to throw the thing away or put it on. It's a wristband, who cares.

i say wearing it a couple days is the best COA suggested - co workers who think less of you for not wearing them are usually tight with the boss.

^^^ yes, exactly. spot on what ive been going for.

also, has anyone ever thought that maybe todd doesnt want to be "cancer boy" for the whole office? its like that episode of SP with the nurse with the fetus head

why would i? the very fact that i considered putting it on at all proves i'm tool-capable

and you DO realize this is tww, right? any situation that receives at least a post is worth the hassle because it provides entertainment, albeit slight...you care enough to respond, so apparently YOU CARE

^^^ you're probably right

If it were me I'd quit being so petty and put the damn bracelet on because:
1. I DON'T HAVE CANCER
and
2. I DON'T WANT TO LOOK LIKE A DICK

Your concerns are so fucking trite.

But that's just me. You do what you want to do.

^ But thats because you care what people think and let others influence your life on a minuscule scale which probably resonates to a massive scale.
