so I'm cleaning out my room (packing for a move) and I found an old paycheck from my job last summer
its not quite a year old - can I still deposit this?
if it turns out the check has been canceled will my bank charge me any sort of fee for trying? 5/14/2008 12:52:32 PM |

cause these don't
^ see I remember losing A check from there and getting it re-cut but I can't remember if it was this particular check

I thought checks were good for a year. You could call the company and ask. They should know if the check is any good or not. 5/14/2008 12:55:23 PM |

well if I just tried to deposit it would there be any potential penalty if it didn't go through? 5/14/2008 12:56:12 PM |

Not if you just go to the teller and ask. 5/14/2008 12:57:58 PM |

I lost one of my checks from State once, and when I got the new one they made me sign something saying if I ever found the old one I wouldn't try to deposit it. Not sure what would have happened if I actually did, though. 5/14/2008 1:22:50 PM |

^^ why would they bother? you can cancel check #s so that they are worthless. its what you do if you lose a checkbook or had to send 2 big checks cause one got lost. 5/14/2008 1:27:38 PM |

I don't know why. They just did. It's the state - maybe they were too lazy to cancel it. 5/14/2008 1:28:38 PM |
