At least, that's according to the New York Times. Quote : | "They’ll pick on the minister thing, they’ll pick on the wife, but the major issue is color,” she said, quietly fingering a coffee cup. Ms. Grossman said she was thinking of voting for Mr. Obama, who is leading in the delegate count for the nomination, as was Ms. Weitz.
But Ms. Grossman does not tell the neighbors. “I keep my mouth shut,” she said." |

Here are some fun quotes.
Quote : | "Mr. Obama is Arab, Jack Stern’s friends told him in Aventura. (He’s not.) Al Qaeda is backing him, said Helena Lefkowicz of Fort Lauderdale (Incorrect.) Mr. Obama might fill his administration with followers of Louis Farrakhan, worried Sherry Ziegler. (Extremely unlikely, given his denunciation of Mr. Farrakhan.) " |
And of course, I expect this to be covered by every network and lampooned on the Daily Show like they did with West Virginia. I just know it will happen.

This is not really racism, this is more ignorance or stupidity (or which racism is a subset).5/22/2008 11:42:32 PM |

Pretty much, the handful mentioned just happen to be Jewish in this case.
It's mainly crap anyway, since the odds that any of them would vote for a Republican are slim to none, unless there's one key point in their old age that's exceedingly important to the person. For example, estate/inheritance tax, if the person doesn't particularly expect to live much longer.5/22/2008 11:52:58 PM |

Stein, the handful of people mentioned in my post are just select quotes from the article. The article itself is entirely about how the doubts of Florida Jews, which NYT boils down to race and mis-conceptions of Obama's religion/position on Israel.
Pretty much the things WV voters were ridiculed for saying.

well he is winning the primary and drawing huge crowds and the fears of racism melted away but obviously they're still there but to what degree they'll affect the voting is the issue 5/23/2008 1:37:45 AM |

i really fail to grasp how the safety and a presidents israeli policy is such a paramount issue with voters. There is no reason that it should be. 5/23/2008 9:18:05 AM |

It's a religious issue. What do you expect, for religious people to be rational? 5/23/2008 9:27:02 AM |

With the exception of the richest of Jews, most American Jews are fairly liberal for any number of reasons, including but not limited to:
1) Welfare 2) Education 3) Non-affiliation with hardcore Christianity5/23/2008 9:35:08 AM |

Captain RATmerica hereby declares all white people who do not believe in Obama or who are in any way support of the Jews:
To be branded as racists. They are no longer entitled to an opinion against this man, because by doing so claim that they do not like the colour of his skin and endorse fully the causes of the Nazi party.
And so it is done. 5/23/2008 1:45:47 PM |
