Ok so I just moved into Pine Knoll... and hooked up my desktop to the wifi. I'm using a netgear wireless adapter because there is no internal thingy. It is not a stable connection (bumps me off every 2 minutes and says it cannot re-establish until I screw with it a few times) and I'm trying to figure out if it's my computer, adapter, or service.

Any suggestions?

Unless you have some alternate hardware to facilitate troubleshooting, this could be a pain to figure out.

Start with hardwiring your computer to verify that your router and ISP are not to blame.

Plug your computer into your router with a cat-5 ethernet cable.

I take it this means that you don't have any control over the hardware and it's settings. You'll be better off to get your own internet service from Time Warner.

Slim chance here, but are you certain your adapter isnt jumping on someone else's (read: neighbors) broadcast wireless and not the pine knoll service? Mine does that for a while until it eventually locates and prioritizes to use my own wifi.
