Bunny kidnapped her self for ransom and hired the Nihilists to make it look like they had done it. The Big Lebowski didn't want Bunny back but saw it as an opportunity to steal $1 million from the Little Lebowski Urban Achievers.

I assumed Big Lebowski hired the Nihilists, or that they acted on behalf of the wife just to get the money for themselves when there was no physical money involved at all.

I know/assume the money was still in the hands of Big L because The Dude confronted him about it and he said 'its my story against yours', but was curious if the daughter would've been able to get it back in the end.

sounds like you either watched it on TV or just didn't pay any attention. they cleared all of this up.

on TV though, they (for whatever stupid fucking reason) edited out a bunch of the important parts of the resolution. so if you've never seen it, you miss a lot of the tie-ups.
