a quick google search didn't really help. can i just cut a stalk of live bamboo, and just stick it in the ground elsewhere and it will grow and spread? any tricks to it?

dont do it. It'll grow like crazy and take over everything and it's very hard to get rid of.

i mean it cant be that bad right? its just bamboo, you just chop down unwanted stallks, its not like you wake up and bamboo are devouring your children.....is it?

it doesn't eat children, but if you plant it make sure it's in an area you want it to be in forever, because you won't be getting rid of it.

Make sure you dont bury it near planted wires of weak piping because that's the trouble Asian people are getting into with bamboo, it's a fiery weed over there!

I think the problem with bamboo is ppl plant it on the edge of their yards and then next thing you know its invaded most of the woods adjacent to your yard. Just take a look at Nowell dr.

Bamboo is a grass not a brush or tree so treat it as so.

Good luck!

just dig up the roots and replant it. find out if you want a running or clumping bamboo before you just go find something in the wild and plant it though.

bamboo infestation is a result of laziness, not some uncontrollable plant. If you don't want it somewhere after it spreads, break off the new shoots by pushing them over with your foot. If you're too lazy to do that, you had no business attempting to plant bamboo in the first place. It's not a low maintenance plant.

^^ mostly true. bamboo can be contained, but depending on what kind you have, that can be a chore.

It's not so much an infestation as a cultivation; truth be told, it's easy to stop it from spreading, but the runners will shoot out and pop up stalks under tables and chairs and easily flip them over, usually underneath a crawlspace it doesn't grow with force.

It's kinda neat, some bamboo that my great grandfather planted way back in the day. We've confined it to a small area, but it's neat.

I was over at the College of Textiles library on Centennial Campus recently, and happened to come across a book all about bamboo. I briefly flipped through it. It looked rather interesting.

I'm pretty sure this is it, The book of bamboo, written by David Farrelly. http://tinyurl.com/54nggk

Let us know how your experiment turns out.

just eat the bamboo shoots if you don't want them to spread, they are delicious.
