It wasn't a great debut, but I'm just glad MMA is being offered on network television now--everybody can see it. BTW, I wasn't thrilled when I saw that a couple of women would be fighting, but I swear they gave some of the best action--I won't doubt them again.

All I can say is I'm glad I recorded this instead of watching it live. The fighting was good but there was a ton of filler crap in between. In the 150 min of broadcast, maybe 35 minutes of it was actual fighting.

Man, the Gina fight was the best one of the 3 I saw. She messed that girl up, and looked like she was about to choke her out except the bell rang.

The eye poke fight ended too quickly, I felt bad for the guy who wanted to keep fighting.

It looked for sure like Kimbo was about to lose in the 2nd round, he was just lying there motionless almost. I wish they'd let the fight go on at least 10 more seconds, it might've been a more convincing ending then.

This is from today's USA Today.

CBS normally draws 4.1 rating in that slot. EliteXC drew 2.7.

However, among the 18-34 demographic, that time slot normally draws 0.7. For 18-34, it was a 271% increase in that demographic (which calculates to a 2.6).

The final national rating does not include the main event between Kimbo and Thompson because it didn't take place til after 11:30. But the overnight rating for that main event from 11:30-11:45 was 4.7.

The strongest region was the South/Sun Belt, which produced the top 10 local ratings for the show. Highest was Oklahoma City at 11.1, followed by Nashville (10.3), New Orleans (9.7), and Memphis (8.4).

(I personally can't speak for OK City, but those last three are traditional pro wrestling strongholds.)

CBS will air three more EliteXC shows, with the next one likely in the fall.

Kimbo's got no ground game and he tires easily. A top fighter could get him with a submission hold or tire him and then knock his ass out--one or the other is going to happen soon, trust me.

Like I said, it wasn't a great debut, but the more MMA gets out there the better chance of widespread acceptance. I like MMA better than boxing--but I still like boxing, don't get me wrong.

The WEC fight broadcast on Versus the next night was WAY more entertaining and still free. Faber vs. Pulver was actually a pretty fun fight. And to those people that say Kimbo Slice is over hyped and will be knocked out or submitted by a real fighter in the near future.
