Make sure you get tiny infections checked out the moment they happen. A guy I know had lost his left leg up to his shin due to a small cut he had on his foot. Could have lost his life. He's not handling it well, he's a physical therapist so he knows the road ahead. He also has a fever still so they're afraid the infection is still in his body somewhere even though the freshly cut leg looked good, God pray it's not in his heart.

It's totally changing the way they will live from this day on and has made me look at life differently, you just never know...

I have something on my foot which I think is a Plantar's wart but none of the at home remedies have worked and I'm so afraid of needles that I haven't gone. Well now a second hard bump has showed up and this incident with this guy has happened and I'm fuhreaked out. I don't want to die or lose my foot!

He's currently unemployed. When he woke me up this morning, I thought he wanted to go job hunting. He wanted to know if I wanted to smoke a blunt.

He's doing well! Will most likely leave the hospital tomorrow!

What's weird is I watched the Trauma in the ER last night (let me just say I forgot how graphic that show is) and a guy got hit by a drunk driver head on at 100mph. His car lit him up like cinder and ruined his face, arms, legs, and back. Anyway he had all sorts of issues but one of his arms was infected so bad that none of the medications were doing anything. They showed the arm and there was green nastiness and a big hole, the doctor put his hand in it and came out with rotting parts... They amputated it and he made it!

On the Plantar's warts do they ever go away on their own? I mean I do NOT WANT A FUCKING NEEDLE IN MY FOOT. The whole reason I haven't gone is because the needle part, it will suck ass! I have noticed since I stopped messing with it the bump has gone down, it's calloused and there's like a black thing in there which someone tried telling me was a "seed" but I don't know if that's the case. Doesn't hurt to walk on it anymore so what's the deal?

FUCK YOU NEEDLES!!!

^^^^ He is correct. Please get your facts straight.

I got it because I had a genetic predisposition to it. My habits weren't the worst at the time and I still got it.

My blood sugar control is where most normal people's blood sugar control would be too, so I don't care. My A1C was under 6% last time and should be this time.

As for the infections thing, they do tell us to check all our extremities often for little scratches or cuts and such. If your sugar control sucks your body will have a harder time fighting infections (or just working normally, for that matter).

Also, your foot thing? They give you the shot because it usually hurts less to operate on your foot under sedation than it would without sedation. Pulling it out yourself will end up being a mistake, as you will find. I had both my big toes operated on for ingrown toenail bullshit. The right toe needed 6 local anesthetic shots, the left toe needed 5 (I think, it was at least that much, maybe more). The pain sucks. You know what was worse though? Shitty ass quality of life and having an infection in my toe/pain when walking. Go to a podiatrist and just soldier up. I'm realizing it's really silly to be afraid to go do something because of a needle or a dentist's drill or some other shit like that. Your life will be better when you fix it, so go fix it!

^ I wasn't a big fan of needles when I was diagnosed, but now I love them. You can get over a lot if you'll just go do something and recognize how important it is that you're able to do it. This includes getting a needle in your foot. Go get a needle in your foot.

I'm not sure how one could ever grow to love several needle pokes into a highley sensitive area.

It makes the infections and the constant pain go away.

Think of it as making the constant pain going away. End your suffering with one long needle.

I've had needles stabbed into my tongue and then had a bunch of flesh burned off that with a lazerrrrr. That was no doubt one of the least pleasant needle experiences ever. Just think how much worse it'll be if there are complications from you trying to remove your own foot "seed" or whatever the hell that thing is. Just do it. DO EET! See a doctor. Fix the problem.

lol I've had a big ass needle go into the side of my tongue too, boo. I think I'm too afraid because in November I had a big ass needle go into an open wound that hurt worst than the thing that gave me the wound!

What if my foot isn't hurting? IT hurt real bad for a while when I was using those at home remedies but lately there's been absolutely no pain, just worry since like it's gross looking ha.

OH EM GEE I'll probably go but I'll cry and crying is for suckers.

Oh, well having the needle in the foot shouldn't be any worse than the needle in the tongue, for reference.

Go do it. If it stops hurting I'd be concerned. When my toe "stopped hurting" it was because there was a nasty infection and it hurt when I put any decent amount of local pressure on it.

Also, keep in mind that your current/next BF will probably freak the fuck out if he sees a black seed-like thing sitting in this little bulge in your foot.

IT only hurts mildly when I put actual pressure on just that ha. And the current d00d I'm seeing offered to give me his hand for squeezing and crying. It's on the ball of my foot so yeah it would get obnoxious.

would I need crutches or walk with a limp afterwards? Do they take a chunk out or just small layers?

omg I dont want to doooo thisssss

I don't know what that means.....

I know he tried doctoring it himself a week before he went.....because he was stubborn and didn't want to go to see a doctor. But his whole foot was black and green and in severe pain. I don't think I'd let it go that bad....

one of my bosses almost lost her foot, if she hadn't gone in that week she would have lost it. On the outside it looked like a little sore on the inside . She's type 2 (NIDD) her hubby is type 1 (IDD), they're both science/medical people. Be careful if you are predisposed to it.

Sorry about you friend Kiwi, recovery is gonna be a biatch.

^^ I think it's actually some sort of deluded masochism or something. Before I switched to the insulin pump I looked forward to stabbing myself in the arm with a needle. It was like getting my "fix" or some crazy shit like that. Oh yeah, I was only on needles for the first year of this stuff, I got used to it after about six weeks. I stopped letting my parents give me shots because they kept jamming them in crooked. That shit isn't cool and burns like fire when you do it wrong, lol.

I'm a little wacky though, so that's part of the problem. I don't really get bothered by needles any more though. I get a kick out of how nurses act like everybody is freaked out by needles. I got a pneumonia vaccine shot the other day and the nurse is like "ok three... two... one..." *stick*. I just looked over and looked at her and went back to re-reading the medical signs in the room. 90% of the trouble I used to have with needles was mental. Now it's just annoying if the person giving the shot/drawing the blood/stabbing me in the gums doesn't know what they're doing and misses or tears skin or something. That's when I get angry.

Yeah though, back on topic, cause i'm just ranting because I'm out of it, it does sound like his blood sugars went up a lot and stayed high before they had to cut the foot off. There's a chance he had decent control though and that when he cut the cut and his foot started to get infected that he slowly lost his appetite and had more trouble controlling his blood sugars. Some diabetics have an extreme reluctance to go to the doctor when stuff starts to go wrong, which is probably why they have bad control. It's hard to keep that from being the mindset when you have to deal with some doctors. I was lucky enough to have awesome pediatric doctors, and I never miss an opportunity to show up for an appointment.

Best of luck to him on his recovery, that's a devastating thing to have happen to you. Just keep positive around him and don't mention the diabetes. I think what I would want at that stage would be somebody to be cheerful around me, even when I'm being a grumpy prick (which he probably will be, I would be, cause I'd be pissed that it happened and that I let it happen).

^ For some reason I just read that. Sorry to hear this. I hope he recovers, that's a really hard thing to have to go through once. God knows what's going through his mind now that he's had to go under a second time.
