My parents went on a multiple week vacation a few years ago. Went to check on the house in the 2nd week and noticed a bad odor. Seems like dear ol' Dad though he was shutting off fuses to the oven, hot water heater, etc. Unfortunately he also hit the fuse for the chest freezer. Had to call my brother to help carry all of the spoiled food away and clean that monster.

Luckily I noticed mine within 48 hrs. I didn't notice to start with because the light was still working and it still seemed cool.
