I'm not sure about the technical terminology so I'll phrase it as best as I can.
When I want to categorize wedding photos, I use folders (Preparations, Decorations and Items, Ceremony, Formals, Reception). The photos under each folder also contain the folder name so when I start jumbling pics for album design in another folder just for the client's photo selections, the photos will automatically categorize themselves alphabetically. That's my system, I'm sticking with it until I learn how to do it more efficiently. (An example filename would be "Decorations - Items (129).jpg")
The Problem: To rename the photos in a folder, I select the entire list, scroll to the top, right-click, hit rename, enter the folder category and (1). It fills in the numbers for the list automatically. This way I can keep them in chronological order by name instead of clicking the "date photo taken" tab. Using a software program I downloaded from my photo lab's website, they upload photos in the order of "001, 002... 010... 100", so if I left the list alone it would upload "1, 100, 101...". So I am forced to individually rename each file up to the 100 mark. In each folder. For each wedding.
It's just cutting into my time a lot. I went into the control panel to temporarily change the double-click speed to the shortest interval so I can just double-click the file and rename it that way without opening it up. However, I was trying to sort through the help files and it's totally useless, I cannot find the topic about how to enter in the placeholder zeros.  6/6/2008 10:17:41 AM
