Epic Fight.
If Shields lands that 100mph fastball punch to Coco, he's out cold. Coco dodges, jabs Shields back, navarro takes down Coco, Shields piles on punches.
Best fight of the year so far.

The only thing that would have made this better is somehow incorporating Frank Robinson in the brawl.
A+ basebrawl though... 6/6/2008 11:06:58 AM |

From the one angle it looks like Coco is getting drilled by the guy with the Tomahawk punches but when you see it from the other angle its not as bad. 6/6/2008 11:19:56 AM |

the only better brawl I've seen in my lifetime is the Don Zimmer getting rolled one.

^^ most are just token walks out to the center of the diamond... there were some haymakers thrown in this one and some nice cheap shots...

Nobody has mentioned the video of Youklis and Manny a little later that game. Imma try to find it now, Manny bitch-slapped Youklis and they went at it.
Video is here http://soxanddawgs.com/?p=4459 . Seems like Youklis may have said something to Manny about not coming out of the dugout during the brawl.

Ah, Neil Little. 214 career PIMs as a goalie, including 10 in his only full NHL game.
He had his chest protector rigged so that he could free the padding on his punching arm from the chest plate by hitting a quick-release connector.6/6/2008 4:42:53 PM |

The Crisp and Shields suspensions are about right, though I thought Crisp might have gotten 8 or 9 games.
Crawford and Gomes should have gotten at least 7 for throwing cheap shots.
I honestly don't know why Lester got 5 games, he has never had great control. If thats the case than you could start suspending lots of pitchers for hit batsmen.
I am guessing Casey did the same thing as Gomes. Crisp is just insurance until Brandon Moss is ready. I am sure all suspensions will be appealed and reduced at least one game on all sides. 6/6/2008 6:42:51 PM |

How are they gonna suspend the pitcher when all he did was defend himself against some asshole trying to assault him? Personally I think the batter should be arrested and charged with assault as well. 6/6/2008 7:08:42 PM |

I think in the NBA, you see a lot more bitch moves... Rodman kicking a camerama... a cameraman? Artest going apeshit crazy on a fan, etc.
In baseball, it's largely kept on the field, man to man (although, there are exceptions as cited above). I mean, Getting a 90mph fastball thrown at your face is infinitely more likely to cause serious injury than lobbing a basketball at 5 mph towards your face, which explains the response of people getting really pissed off and charging the mound, especially on intentional hits.
There's zero reason to get in a fight on the basketball court. Especially with the fans. 6/7/2008 10:09:42 AM |

there was a fight from the early to mid 80s that I remember seeing just once... a batter got hit, didnt do anything, went to first. Next batter flied out to end the inning. The guy that got hit was running to second, saw the ball was caught, and then headed straight to the mound and he and the pitcher beat the living fuck out of each other.
No idea who it was, what teams, or even if it was MLB or minor leagues, but it was fucking crazy if anyone can find it. 6/7/2008 1:33:03 PM |

Uh, maybe that is because they didn't go in to the stands randomly throwing haymakers at people who had NOTHING to do with the altercation in the first place... there may be a double standard, but stop being a dumbass... You don't honestly think that the outrage was based on the fact that Artest/Jackson went in to the stands, do you? It's because they started pummeling anyone they could see...
**** And the A's-Rangers thing got MAJOR, MAJOR media publicity...
