Fuck putting this in the NBA thread...he's an alum. That would make Nate, Sidney, and Del Negro as former NC State players coaching/have coached in the NBA. Not too bad.
On a sarcastic note...maybe he can suck it up for two years, go on to coach as an assistant for a championship team, then we can hire him in five years. 6/9/2008 2:34:20 PM |

Interesting choice...
The Bulls have a lot of talent on that team; they were fun to watch the last couple of years (before this past season). It'll be interesting to see if he can turn them back around. 6/9/2008 2:36:52 PM |

I wonder if he has any input on the number 1 pick
I think it will be minimal, if any 6/9/2008 2:38:12 PM |

I always thought it was funny how he was the only white person playing for the Spurs back in the 90s, and his last name was Del Negro 6/9/2008 2:44:56 PM |

NBA coaches seem to come out of the blue more than other sports
Sam Vincent being a prime example
Hopefully Vinny's stint last a little longer 6/9/2008 2:50:42 PM |

Quote : | "And whaddaya know, it turns out the Bulls have hired, uh... Vinny del Negro? Seems weird, but... okay. Perhaps they needed someone to bridge the racial divide on the team; del Negro, after all, is a white man whose name means "of the Negros."" |
Official per Chicago Tribune, btw

i guess they're taking a stab at an unknown coach who COULD be the next big thing, instead of a relatively proven coach like Flip or Avery where you know they'll give you a good regular season and choke in the playoffs (see: Jerry Sloan) 6/9/2008 4:48:48 PM |

I posted this first!
And to the original post we will probably need a new coach after next year so I doubt the Bulls can Vinny after one year. Would be a possibility later I'll bet. 6/9/2008 8:55:14 PM |

I remember years ago when Nate McMillian got hired by the Sonics I wrote and posted a story on the front page, that must have been a while back.
I've always liked Del Negro. I hope that he does well. Go Wolf Pack! 6/10/2008 12:23:24 AM |

^^Maybe we'll get lucky after Sid and snag Sean Miller, he's got a huge buyout right now but in a couple of years who knows. 6/10/2008 12:58:04 AM |
