Is anyone else actually nervous? If I learned anything from my time here in the natural sciences, its that what we know, or specifically our models of what we know, are changed every 50 years. The fact that they think that it could, by chance, cause doomsday, shouldn't they atleast make 100% sure it won't?

from what I've read, the earth's atmostphere is constantly bombarded by ultra high energy partcicles that pretty much match the experiments that can be conducted in this thing. and we're still here. and i hear these will be much less energetic.
some speculate that individual particles hit our atmosphere with the kinetic energy of a baseball. that's freaky amounts of energy

The wiki says something like it starts up on May 28, they get some introductory shit that I don't understand done by the middle of June, then sometime in July they start the first experiment on it. Something like that. I'm too ignorant of physics to know what the hell half that shit on wikipedia is talking about (without reading the 500 articles it's linked to).

I'd just like to see pretty pictures of the thing in action.

I kinda doubt there will be any pictures of the thing in action, unless you want a picture of the ring just sitting there. I guess they could make a visualization of the energy readouts, but that's probably about it.

If I were about to open a meat market gay bar I would likely call it the "Large Hardon Collider."
