Bangle's designs, while ugly as shit on current production cars, work well with fabric. The car has it's problems(See those random wrinkles in the door jam? Would the material hold up?), but I'm definitely intrigued.
The Pontiac Fiero had a plastic skin, but ended up being heavier for it since the body added no structural support and the frame had to be beefed up to compensate. 6/10/2008 2:59:07 PM |

That car is really creepy looking to me.
I don't think the anthropomorphic descriptions of the cars features (on that blog) helped much. 6/10/2008 3:05:31 PM |

lines are a little odd, but fit the current bmw design very well (while exadurating it). DEFENITELY innovative. i would expect if the idea of soft shell over exoskeleton would go into production, there would have to be some exotic engineering/materials to match the safety level of the unibodies. i'd rock one,

Isn't Bangle the head of the design dept now. In other words, probably not the guy that designed this car. Rather the guy that supervised its designing? 6/12/2008 11:39:52 AM |

cool concept
just think of the adaptive downforce that could happen in racing...the driver could dial in more or less just by adjusting the skin. the body geometry could change under braking for more air resistance and less under acceleration. 6/12/2008 2:34:54 PM |

Actually, I imagine this stuff would flap around at high speeds, although they did used to build airplanes this way. 6/12/2008 2:43:56 PM |

Spoilers on any car could be adapted to adjust on the fly very easily (if they don't already.)

It will be sweet when you get into a tiny fender bender and the cloth rips all the way across the car.
But it's a cool concept. 6/12/2008 11:17:58 PM |

so i take it if you want to do any real work to the engine you have to pull the fabric cover off...
there is something very "flight of the navigator" about it.. 6/12/2008 11:45:00 PM |

As opposed to some toothless redneck charging you $85 an hour to pull out the metal, grind it, body putty, sand, prime, sand, paint, sand, paint, sand, paint, sand, etc? Yeah, you get the point.6/13/2008 12:00:02 AM |
