So my house was built in 1939. There is no central, but there is central gas heat. I want to add AC. Would this be sufficient to do it? http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Ton-Carrier-Air-Conditioning-Condensing-Unit_W0QQitemZ270245265817QQihZ017 I figure all I'd need was the condenser. Can anyone help me out? 6/10/2008 7:10:26 PM |

call someone local for free estimate/advice buy parts off of ebay that are in quote.. ... profit
i really dont know much about home AC systems but seriously that's what I'd do. I know my parents had a free quote to have one installed a while back. Might be worth giving a shot.. 6/10/2008 7:47:33 PM |

unfortunately, the auction will end before I could get anyone out here and I've seen nothing even close to that price in my admittedly short search. 6/10/2008 8:31:11 PM |

think you could resell it for that regardless?
i mean, you'd definitely need one of those no doubt.. just not sure how much else it'd take to get it done anywhere close to right 6/10/2008 8:37:53 PM |

all you have to do is plug that unit in the wall socket and run a vent in your wall and your done, fresh ac just like that.

probably gonna need something more like http://www.commercial.carrier.com/commercial/hvac/product_description/0,,CLI1_DIV12_ETI434_PRD1112,00.html
honestly tho 2 tons would cover 1000sqft but it will be a touch more difficult than ^ (ductwork) but not too expensive id think....but i dont know all i do is college campus/labs and hospitals so it seems

the house has all the ducting done, I just need to add cold air and a thermostat. I figure I need a condenser, coil, and thermostat 6/11/2008 2:37:56 AM |

dude... 26000 cfm is about 20 tons haha
^ Ok so we know your house is old... is there any updated insulation, have the windows been replaced? how many windows are there? are you on a shaded lot or an open lot? how man computers are in the house? do you have a large entertainment system in the area?
2 tons should cover it depending on how bad insulation is, how much infiltration you have and how many windows you have... pictures window dimensions house location (so i can google map it and see the orientation and shade the house may or may not have.6/11/2008 9:08:12 AM |

first of all you can't legally buy that, the r-22, or charge it yourself, much less the fact that you have no idea what you are doing, your best bet is to call somebody. i might could have cut you a good deal, but i'm moving out of raleigh in two weeks 6/11/2008 9:30:59 AM |

It was 1 or two mornings ago that I noticed the fan/pump on the outside for the AC sounded different but I didn't think to investigate. Again this morning it sounded odd so I went outside and the fan wasn't running but it sounded like the pump was trying to do it's job as there was a good bit of heat in the area. I'm assuming since the fan wasn't running that the problem is there, but I'm also wondering if the pump gets frozen would that stop the fan for some reason? I'm assuming the start/run caps for the outside fan will be physically close to them (not with the air handler circuitry)? 10/18/2014 1:16:12 PM |

I think you will need some sort of air handler.. A condenser is no good without an evaporator 10/19/2014 11:37:44 PM |
