San Jose dropping Ron Wilson is surprising. They had a strong team. Dallas was just a bit stronger.

Because they can't seem to break through.

They get Jumbo Joe, they can't get to the Finals.

They solidify Nabokov as their #1, they can't get to the Finals.

Something's gotta change for there to be a breakthrough, and they can't fire the team. SJ has more talent than Dallas.

Quote :
" Blake Wheeler, the highly-sought winger from the University of Minnesota, has advised his agent to finalize terms of a contract with the Bruins, a two-year deal that won’t be made official until July 1, in keeping with NHL bylaws that govern the movement and signing of unrestricted free agents.

"More than 20 NHL teams were interested in Blake, and this was a very tough decision,’’ said Wellesley-based agent Matt Keator, who also represents Boston captain Zdeno Chara. "And ultimately it came down to a few things for Blake, but mostly that he was comfortable with where the Bruins were headed as an organization — how this year they brought along kids like David Krejci, Milan Lucic, and Mark Stuart. They’ve done a good job of developing kids, and he wants to continue along that line.’’"

Some post here or alert me when official word comes out about alternate jerseys in 08-09. I'm sick of reading unsubstaniated rumors.

The Canes will have a black alternate. I work at a hockey shop and we ordered them months ago. Atlanta, Boston, Buffalo, Chicago, Dallas, Edmonton, LA, Minnesota, Montreal, NYI, Ottawa, Philly, Phoenix, SJ, St. Louis, Tampa, Toronto, and Vancouver will also have new thirds.

As for Wheeler...poor Gretz.

"According the Columbus Dispatch, the Columbus Blue Jackets are close to acquiring the negotiating rights to Penguins' power forward Ryan Malone, who is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The newspaper suggested deal could be consummated as early as Tuesday.

However, NHL sources also told the Dispatch that the Minnesota Wild and Vancouver Canucks also are talking to Pittsburgh about acquiring Malone's rights."

I don't see them keeping both Hossa and Malkin. I don't even know how they would manage that with the cap.

Vinyl: Are the third jerseys this year going to be the solid black design with the warning flag across the front or down the side??

I personally like the first over the second

I saw that about Sundin (for the wings)

We should steal Fleury from the penguins... or start investing in a young hotshot goalie... within the next 3 years cause i know ozzy will roll, but the current backup is important

I just saw something on the espn bottom line about Malkin getting an offer from a Russian team

something like a 3-year deal, $12.5 million per year tax-free

that would be pretty wild if one of the best players in the league gets plucked out to go play in Russia

he won't go

he already had to be smuggled out of russia just to get back since the mafia forced him to sign a russian contract

russia sucks, especially magnitogorsk

^ that kind of pisses me off but philly usually makes pretty good picks in that area of the draft (Simon Gagne, Jeff Cafter, Mike Richards)

umberger to columbus means malone to columbus is less likely

i think it'd be great if he stayed in the burgh but it seems unlikely, especially since tanguay to montreal lessens the habs' need for hossa, in whom they were interested

also tiger woods to the kings for jack johnson (e4)

Quote :
"The Tampa Bay Lightning's new ownership group vowed to be "staggeringly aggressive' in the NHL's free agent sweepstakes and they are trying to get a head start on that.

The Lightning have traded a fourth-round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for the exclusive negotiating rights to forwards Ryan Malone and Gary Roberts, who are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on July 1.

''We said earlier this week we would be aggressive in our pursuit of free agents in order to win and compete,'' Lightning owner Oren Koules said. ''This trade today doesn't guarantee anything, but we believe it gives us a leg up in our attempt to sign these two impact players.''

If the Lightning were to sign Malone, the more coveted free agent of the two, Pittsburgh will receive Tampa Bay's third-round pick in 2009 or they will receive Dallas' fourth-round pick in 2009, previously acquired by the Lightning, if they are not able to sign Malone."
