Quote : | "Michelle Obama said she was "touched" that first lady Laura Bush came to her defense after she was harshly criticized by Republicans for saying last February that for the first time in her adult life she was proud of the United States.
Obama, wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, later clarified her remarks, saying she had always been proud of her country and was particularly proud to see so many people involved in the political process.
In an interview last week with ABC, Bush said, "I think she probably meant 'I'm more proud,' you know, is what she really meant." She said comments in a campaign are closely watched and can be misconstrued.
Michelle Obama told the women of ABC's "The View" that she sent Bush a note for her remarks.
"It took me a while to write it. It's like, how do I address her?" she said. "I said dear madam first lady."
Obama did not elaborate on the contents of the letter because she said Bush might not have received it yet.
"But I was touched by it," Michelle Obama said. "And that's what I like about Laura Bush. You know, just calm, rational approach to these issues. And you know, I'm taking some cues. I mean, there's a balance. There's a reason why people like her. It's because she doesn't, sort of, you know, fuel the fire."
At a campaign stop in February, Michelle Obama told an audience in Milwaukee: "For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country. Not just because Barack is doing well, but I think people are hungry for change."
Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential contender John McCain, later sought to capitalize on the remark, saying "I have, and always will be, proud of my country."
Obama, guest host on the popular talk show, talked about the presidential campaign and helped interview actor Matthew Broderick. " |

She's just a class act. When Teresa Heinz Kerry criticized her for "never holding a real job" which, according to Heinz Kerry, included teacher and librarian, there was a huge fallout over that. And this is why. I think most Americans, regardless of their opinion of Bush, thinks very highly of Laura because she repeatedly proves to be a class act.
Points to Michelle, as well, for the acknowledgment.

perhaps you need to go to the library so you can properly formulate a sentence.
Dude, she's nothing but a class act and since when is being a housewife something that is to be looked down upon? Her most important job, above librarian and teacher, is being a mother.
I swear, some people will hate others no matter what.
^ And why don't you find negative press on her to backup your dislike of her? What has she done to warrant your hatred?

^ I think that reading stems from the fact that she's not an activist and tends to shy away from attention rather than create failed healthcare plans.
She's a first lady. She's not a legislator. She's not a cabinet wannabe. She's just Bush's wife. And she seems to be a really sweet lady. 6/18/2008 5:07:10 PM |

too bad she married a fucking idiot.
I have to wonder what goes through her mind when she's standing behind W. at a speech or press conference and he's bumbling around like a retard, when even she could do 10 times better.
I heard Scott McClealan a couple weeks ago on Fresh Air talking about his book, and Terry Gross asked him about Bush's reading habits - whether it's true that he doesn't read newspapers. He said that Bush will skim the headlines on some newspapers, and wouldn't ever read any opinion pieces. Then he said that Laura read all the papers closely and brought things to his attention that he should know about. 6/18/2008 5:08:14 PM |

if I were president I wouldn't read newspapers either
he has tons of advisors and minions and little people to read things and bring them to his attention
