is not that much of a leap

"from classical to xiu xiu" would be a more accurate description of your catalog's variety

this exemplifies why i don't go to reader's corner

How is classical to jazz not much of a leap?

well, relatively speaking

for a store that sells pop and rock records as well as classical and jazz

the jump from j.s. bach to animal collective is larger than the jump from j.s. bach to louis armstrong

I just don't get how you can quantify music in such a way that allows to you judge how different three types are when they are all very different in terms of time period, geography, instruments, etc.

well, if you want to be specific, classical music is a specific period of european art music from the early eighteen century until the early nineteenth century

and jazz at its heart is music made by african musicians in the west using instruments from the european art music tradition

whereas rock music more generally involves spanish folk instruments than european art instruments

classical and jazz are closer than classical and rock
jazz and rock are closer than classical and rock

that's my point

"from classical to xiu xiu" would be a better advertisement for variety than "from classical to jazz"
