I just woke up and found this thing crawling on a wall in my room. Sorry for the crappy cell phone photo...Also note that it just fell off the wall and I have no idea where the fuck it went.

Creeps me out that I don't know where it went. I've seen a few of these things around my apartment. Apparently they're breeding an army.
6/24/2008 6:18:56 AM
I looked at it quick and thought it was a pic of a hairy butthole. Kind of centipede-ish, but I have no clue. Good luck trying to rest!
6/24/2008 6:21:02 AM
It's a house centipede. It eats other bugs, so it's really not such a bad thing to have in your house.[Edited on June 24, 2008 at 6:28 AM. Reason : .]
6/24/2008 6:26:45 AM
It's a house centipede. But be careful, they're nasty buggers who CAN sting you.^Yes they eat other bugs...but the stinging outweighs the good imo.[Edited on June 24, 2008 at 6:33 AM. Reason : they do tend to mass breed...]

Sweet, mystery solved. From Wikipedia:
6/24/2008 6:37:50 AM
that's a sweet picture
6/24/2008 6:40:37 AM
You probably couldn't find it because it had already burrowed inside of your brain.
6/24/2008 6:50:16 AM
All I can think of are those carnivorous centipedes I've seen on YouTube. [Edited on June 24, 2008 at 10:19 AM. Reason : ]

I hate, hate, hate these things. There were tons of them in Wood my freshman year and they would hide in your clothes or whatever and scare the shit out of you.
6/24/2008 10:23:35 AM
There are a ton of those things in my basement, I usually leave them alone unless they come upstairs.Sometimes my dog eats them.
6/24/2008 10:30:08 AM
they eat roaches and stuff so if you have those things, you have enough bugs to sustain the population. better a few predators than a billion prey, imo. with that being said, i live right beside a creek (its 10 feet from the base of the house, lol) in the woods in a house with lots of cracks around windows and doors. I probably have at least 10 if not 15 spiders in my house right now. typically they stake out a spot and don't move around much so i have a pact with them. if they find a spot to chill and don't make webs everywhere, i don't mess with them. i did kill one in my bed once though. he had to go for violating the pact, but i didn't take my revenge on his kinsmen.given the choice between Scutigera and the spiders, i'll take the spiders [Edited on June 24, 2008 at 10:32 AM. Oh, we have those too.[Edited on June 24, 2008 at 11:12 AM. Reason : why do different message boards use different image tags?!]

yup, thats a house centipede. Back when I lived in Wood Residence Hall, I would see them in the dorm. Freaked my roommate out (but then again, this girl was afraid of crickets) I was glad to learn that they aren't dangerous and eat the other things crawling around the dorm. That picture from wikipedia is awesome. I like bugs, just when they are not invading my living space.
6/24/2008 11:27:46 AM
spider food
6/24/2008 11:36:01 AM
their legs fly apart really easily when you swat them
6/24/2008 11:43:01 AM
at least these things eat the other things. that's enough to make a truce with them .

I had one of these things on the ceiling in my old apartment... posted here and let tww answer my question.
6/24/2008 1:52:25 PM
Kill it with fire.
6/24/2008 1:54:26 PM
yeah it's really just better if you burn down the whole apt. just in case.
6/24/2008 1:55:47 PM
they are just bugs. I don't understand why people are so afraid of them.
6/24/2008 3:13:05 PM
^x6they have critters related to those in florida. limbs not as long. they're actually kinda cool. tailless whip scorpions.
6/24/2008 3:55:09 PM

6/24/2008 4:18:40 PM
Kittyb, since you are around, do you know much about native species of spiders in NC? the most prevalent spider I have around in the house is the one in this picture. i know it's kind of blurry, sorry. it doesn't have much of a face, just 2 very large palps.
6/24/2008 4:27:13 PM
^that exact kind crawled over my hand the other day when i picked up my towel
6/24/2008 4:31:32 PM
spiders are the spawn of satan.
6/24/2008 4:32:23 PM
i'm not an expert on true spiders. the large palps suggest a mature male in search of a lady
6/24/2008 4:41:22 PM
are the females bigger than the males? I am now afeared! spiderlets everywhere!
6/24/2008 4:42:31 PM
fuck that shit!!! exterminate with extreme prejudice!
6/24/2008 4:45:47 PM
females aren't always bigger than males. just depends on the species.
6/24/2008 4:55:32 PM
STOP posting pictures! goddamn you people....now i feel like i have spiders crawling all over me
6/24/2008 6:03:05 PM
omg i hate those thingsi usually burn down the building as soon as i see oneEEWWWWWWWWWbut cockroaches dont bother me too much, the more legs something has, the less i like it
6/24/2008 6:06:54 PM
