Played a few times, like the game and I'm pretty decent at it. Next step - buy a set of cheap used clubs. Anyone have a set lying around that they're looking to get rid of?
I'm 6', to help give you an idea of the length of clubs I'm looking for. Thanks. 6/24/2008 9:19:47 AM |

^^have you ever hit a ball? you might wanna try the local driving range just to get a feel. but if you just want a set, goodwill had individual clubs for sale. you could complete a set through there.
or goto the used sporting goods stores. play it again sports has a large selection. not sure what the condition is though, or price.
or you could hit up craigslist. 6/24/2008 10:30:19 AM |

decent at it = shot a 36 on the par-3 course in greensboro last weekend
i only hack a shot once every 20 times or so, i can hit the green from about 150 yards out after playing 3-4 times and i'm money with the putter. that's pretty decent, by my reckoning.
feel free to voice your concerns about my golf n00bity but post some good deals too.

^^ no, never hit a ball except for putt putt and i don't think that compares. i generally hate putt putt as it frustrates me with all its stupid characters and tricks and people waiting on me and annoying kids and crap. so i don't know that golf will work out for me, but i feel like it's something that i should at least try to learn- i don't necessarily have to be good at it 6/24/2008 10:40:51 AM |

I'm not asking this dismissively, I'm genuinely curious.6/24/2008 10:47:17 AM |

it is utterly maddening, expensive, and nigh impossible to master. But, if you don't take yourself too seriously, that aspect of the game doesn't take away much. It's not a game that you have to be really good at to enjoy, unless you have a really fragile ego.
- When you do hit that perfect swing once in a while, and as soon as you make contact with the ball, you know it's perfect... that's one of the more satisfying things about life in general.
- Beer
- Although the learning curve is steep, once you know the rules, ettiquette, and can play somewhat respectably (you're not holding people up, and people aren't ducking for cover when you're about to swing) it's a lot of fun. Again, it's only fun if you're expectations are reasonable.

- A golf course is a very serene, calming environment.

I have a set of Taylor Made knockoffs (irons) that you can have for maybe $40. When I got them I had them lengthened, maybe .5" or 1". I have some misc. woods laying around too. PM me if you want to work something out. 6/24/2008 11:42:27 AM |

def. goto a driving range. they have clubs you can loan to use, and also some have a putting green. its real grass and slopes like you'll see on an actual green.6/24/2008 12:26:26 PM |

pretty good, always good to start mastering your irons and short game first... but how have you played on a real course? Have you hit a dogleg fairway with your driver yet?6/24/2008 1:28:44 PM |

i must've hit <10 balls with a driver on the range, and i was pretty miserable so that's definitely something i'll do more of and soon. like you said, i'm trying to develop my irons and short game first.
and no, i've not played on a real course yet. i will, once i get a cheap set of clubs

i had a set of cobra clubs before and i they were pretty damn good........i had a cheap set and then once i upgraded to them it took about 10 strokes of my game. So 120 for them might not be so bad 6/24/2008 4:51:25 PM |
