i've flown over it a couple of times. it's easy to distinguish from all of the other mountains around here--it's pretty big, and part of a side is pretty much blown off.

I flew over Rainier today at 17,000' (the peak is about 14,500). we were gonna go fly a formation low level through the mountain valleys, but my wingman's jet broke before we took off...so we just went and cruised around to burn off some fuel before shooting a couple of practice approaches and some laps around the landing pattern.

^^^^ My buddy out at McChord climbed Ranier the other weekend. He's an inexperienced climber and it turned out to be a rather bad decision.

^^ several people die on Mt. Rainier every year.

it seems to often be the experienced people who die, trying to protect the inexperienced people in their party after some accident or when the weather turns suddenly.

yeah, a climber died on Rainier about 3 weeks ago.
