just under the gun there for you, son

sorry

...

but, because you're too stupid to understand what the topic is supposed to be about, I'll try to explain

natural death will one day be curable, and aside from violence or accident we will be able to live as long as we please

DISCUSS!

If you're Aubrey de Grey, then yes, you probably believe that.

But it hasn't been done quite yet.

[Edited on June 25, 2008 at 5:37 PM. Reason : I will, however, commend him on an interesting theory.]

it's not really a "theory"

just like "going to mars" isn't a theory

it's a destination

just takes time, innovation, and hard work

curing death one day is a given in my book

whether or not it's in my lifetime is the lottery draw

not my book...besides..."curing death"? that doesn't even make sense because contrary to what you say, death is not a disease

Agreed.

I think we're fucked, though.

The trick to ignoring someone, is to actually do it.

Otherwise, this has the potential to become an interesting topic, but you're going to have to do more than toss out a trite phrase to kick it off.

I don't buy it.

It's not that we couldn't theoretically get to the point where death from "natural causes" is avoidable.

It's just that people are pretty much always going to kill each other. Which is to say that, even if you live an extraordinarily long time, someone is eventually going to come along and shoot/disintegrate/evaporate your ass. Given the vague nature of "an extraordinarily long time" and the basic statistics involved, that's pretty much a given.

You can cure a lot about mankind, but you can't cure how much we suck -- with the possible exception that you are willing to suck just as much of the rest of us and exterminate the bad apples.

And even that's just a possible exception.

If death is a disease, then taxes must be a disease. We must cure taxes once and for all!

I agree.

Can we cure taxes first?

I can live with death.
