I frequent Gold's Gym at North Hills. I go there pretty much every morning with not much of a workout plan. I just kinda wing it. Anybody else there from 7 am - 8:15 am?

I go to Planet Fitness (Western Blvd) from 1:00-2:30PM on weekdays for cardio/weight training; and from 8:30-9:30PM three nights a week for conditioning.

I go to the my living room gym.

It's cheap, conveniently located, and it lets me be as lazy as I need to be in case I do something stupid and injure myself.

Though soon I'll be looking to pick up a martial art that will basically eliminate the need to go to the gym for much of anything.

The Rush in Greensboro

a little "trendy", but it's right near my house, I got a decent deal, and I'm dedicated enough that I know a contract isn't a bad purchase for me

Planet Fitness - Western - After work 3-4 days a week.

I generally wander around for an hour or 2 with no real direction.

I'm the guy they complain about in the "gym complaints" thread, who randomly jumps into the middle of your circuit routine, and goes from the benchpress to preacher curls, and generally has no idea what kind of work out he is doing.

My gym philosophy usually revolves around "quantity rather than quality." I figure if I can just get IN the gym 3-4+ times a week, I've done pretty well.

what's the cheapest gym around? in the ncsu/south raleigh/cary/garner area

I'd like to start going a few nights a week but can't afford crazy fees. No contract is even better.

I used to go to Capital Fitness.

Planet Fitness is the cheapest place to go. There isnt a contract but there is a one-time start up fee. They usually want between 10 and 30 for it, depends on if theyre running any specials. The going rate is 10 a month. 24/7 m-f, 7-7 on weekends or so

Peak Fitness (downtown) runs me 25. 24/7 minus sunday night. More stuff than planet fitness but planet fitness has enough (though the dbs only run to 80 at planet)

The YMCA on Hillsborough is 30. Never been in but I hear its nice and has a pool.

Peak and YMCA also offer (free?) classes.

Hillsborough St YMCA. I'm there too, but not much recently.

Here's my post from another thread. I didn't really gym shop but the Y has everything I could want. Free weights, machines, cardio, classes for no extra fee, steam room, (pool & hot tub, not at Hillsborough yet), a gym with basketball courts, nice locker rooms.

I think that they also offer childcare while you're working out. Not sure if that's viable for your young child though. You can get the student rate if you still have an ID or their young adult rate is only like $28/ month. Joining fee is only like $100 and can be split into 4 payments. You can cancel your contract at any time, but if you join again you'll probably have to repay the joining fee.

If you join the YMCA on Hillsborough Street, you get a Triangle wide membership to go with it, until they finish construction on the pool and the rest of the expansion. So you can use any Y in the Triangle until the end of the year, and when the building is finished you can choose to keep your membership at the Hillsborough location, or transfer it to any of the other Triangle ones.

Yeah, the Planet Fitness near Harris Teeter is 10 bucks per month. I was a member there from October until recently (I moved). Everything there is pretty good. Just avoid the place from 530-8 because it gets ridiculously crowded, the weights at least. Its open from like Monday at 5am until Friday at 9pm. Saturday and Sunday are 7AM-7PM (i think, no promises on the weekend hours).

For the money its a great deal

NCSU gym for now. Pretty damn good deal for an employee, and the only real downside is sometimes avoiding the crowds. The new fitness center is damn nice, and where else are you going to find an indoor track?

eventually I might start going to the Peak fitness downtown, as a martial arts class I used to take has moved to that gym and is now members only. But before I even consider going back to that, I need to lose some weight and tone up...

a lot of gyms have indoor tracks??? maybe not but the Ys do.

but if you are a student why wouldn't you go to the ncsu gym? thats the only place i went when i was in school. haven't seen the new addition yet, though.

Had a great workout in a gym at an East Baghdad combat outpost the other day. Bullet holes in the walls, broken glass in the corners of the room, dusty, dank and dark. Squat racks are made of welded scrap metal, the weights are all old and rusty. It looked worse than a prison yard. There were no mirrors, 1 weak ass fluorescent bulb and damn sure no juice bar. Someone had spray-painted on the wall "Push like it's your last time."

It was really fucking cool, I wish I had my camera.

I lift at Gold's Gym in Cary, and occasionally in my garage.

I do cardio in my living room, but I need to start going back to the gym so I can mix it up on the ellipticals some.

anyone doing Summer Session II...my class ends at 11:20 and I go to the gym everyday after for lifting and 20-30min cardio

my roommate used to be my workout buddy but i've had to lift alone for SS1, it really sucks with no spotter and helping to push you, would love to find someone to lift with if the schedule fits, I usually stay from 11:30-1:30 or 2...

On a related note. Anyone seen that video of those black dudes called like "Urban training" or something. It shows them doing exercises on jungle gym equipment, lampposts, and other various stuff. Those dudes are freaking diesel.
