I have had this problem for some time and I am just now getting a chance to work on it. I had XP Home and just tried the other day to install XP Media Center I had laying around and see if that would solve the problem. It doesn't. Both before (with XP home) and now (with XP media) I have to have the operating system disc that I used to install in the DVD drive at startup for windows to load. Otherwise I get an error and it won't let me start up until I restart with the disc in.

Anyone seen this problem before or have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

pretty strange

what is the error you're getting

i would have assumed you just needed to reload the bootsector but installing MCE would have done that for you

well i've been getting it to start up by changing the boot priority and having CD drive 1st. whenever i have the HD before the CD drive, or I don't have the OS in the CD drive, it gets that error.
