I'd imagine that'd be even sicker live.

Maybe someone will come along and write Neil Peart a new drum solo. He's been playing the same one for about 20 years now. 7/4/2008 10:12:08 PM |

The best drummer I've seen live is Eric Slick. He tours with Adrian Belew of King Crimson and with a Zappa tribute band and does some incredible stuff with a 4 piece set.

yeah neil pert is an amazing drummer waaaayy ahead of his time, but he's not the greatest drummer of this day and age even though no single drummer stands out as he did in this day and age. 7/5/2008 12:03:04 AM |

i'd have to say alan white or bill bruford maybe chad wackerman or terry bozio are the best i've ever heard
i'd say either one of those 4 or john bonham is the best overall though 7/5/2008 2:51:14 AM |

Yeah. We talked about FF6 for a while.
IIRC, a friend of ours who was staying over at our house invited the band to crash with us 7/5/2008 11:44:18 AM |

I have a limited pool to choose from...but best I've seen live:
?uestlove at the HOB. Yeahyeah...kind of a mainstream choice...but he destroyed a solo. It was pretty sick. (however, the lead guitarist blew everyone away).
Quentin Baxter of Gradual Lean. A local jazz drummer here in Charleston who is just the most ridiculous jazz artist I've ever seen. He does it all, but is an absolutely insane percussionist. 7/5/2008 12:11:46 PM |

but seriously i think brann dailor is probably the best drummer as far as staying inside 4/4 or 6/8. Even though mastodon plays in some pretty ridiculous time signatures half the time, he is able to keep me on the edge of my seat better than anyone else without relying on 15/16 or 11/8 crazy dream theater, planet x prog type stuff.
always been impressed with the drums in the middle of this song 7/5/2008 12:26:36 PM |

Vid #1: I didn't see anything special. A handful of tricks from junior high marching band and a bunch of jumping around and doing nothing. Better be glad they had a soundtrack playing in the background or else it would have sounded like shit. I only watched to 2:45 though and didn't see any reason to continue.
Vid #2: See vid #1 and add that I don't think this guy could keep time without a soundtrack playing.
Vid #3 seems like more of Vid #1 shenanigans. 7/8/2008 12:40:58 AM |
