I think two years ago I cashed a "check" from this agency that sent me information unsolicited. I am also pretty certain that two years ago I called them and verified that I had canceled my service. Today they charged my credit card $139. I have already contacted my bank. Anybody have any similar experiences? Are the chances good that the merchant will credit me the money back or will I have to contest the charge through my bank? Can I drive to Maryland and firebomb their offices? 7/5/2008 4:38:16 PM |

contest it with your credit card. They'll terminate the charge and probably issue you a new card for security purposes. 7/5/2008 4:55:38 PM |

so they're not going to credit me that money back, I take it
Wachovia advised me to declare the card lost or stolen but told me to try to get credited from the merchant first before I try to contest the charge
I truly do have vague memories of calling this company and being assured that I was removed from the service and that I would not receive any fees of any kind - this was in maybe 2006
those motherfuckers are sneaky as shit to wait 2 years before pulling this shit
maybe I could file suit against them 7/5/2008 4:57:46 PM |

this happened to me with a check that i did not cash. i told them to send me a copy of the check that i signed and they put me on hold for 45 mins then came back and said i would be credited my money. being that you actually cashed the check you may have a hard time. also, these people do this for micro 'interest-free' loans, and will credit your money back if you know how to nag and know how to present your case. this is a very unethical business scheme. should be illegal.

The threat of fertilizer bombs and pliers applied to testicles should be enough to make those people give you your money back. Or, speak with the credit card company, get them to fight the charge, etc etc. 7/6/2008 11:23:26 AM |

yes I will do that (credit card company, not the threat of violence - though I should because this company is engaged in financial terrorism)
the credit card company advised me to attempt to have the money refunded by the merchant before contesting the charge because contesting a charge can take 30-90 days and I might just get my money back instantly if I call
so... when contesting the charge does the credit card company bring its bankers and lawyers into play on this shit? 7/6/2008 11:26:46 AM |
