We all begged and pleaded and prodded her about the contractions, but she never changed them.

God, I hated people from my fiction writing classes who couldn't take any critique. Trying to pull that whole tortured artist "you just don't get it" thing. Well, if your readers don't get it, they won't read it, and you won't sell any of this shit! You suck!
Now, granted, I wrote some BOMBS in those classes, myself, but they generally did get cleaned up into something workable once I pulled my head out of my ass and listened to other people.

Haha, I had a bunch of people tell me they didn't like my story's ending because everyone ended up dying, but the last person to review my paper wrote "Don't listen to them, this story is awesome, keep it exactly the way it is".

^^^ I think it's cause the main people in the story were two kids, and people didn't expect/want them to die. But it made sense in the story

^ That's the trick. It has to make SENSE for people to die. Please do not off characters just for the sake of making the ending more tragic, but make it for a reason.

i guess i would rather things work out well, but its really annoying when everything works out for all parties. Its much more realistic, involving and believable when there has to be some sacrifice by certain characters.
