Quote :
" CHICAGO (AP) - The Rev. Jesse Jackson says he's "very sorry" for comments he made about Barack Obama during what he thought was a private conversation with a reporter.

Jackson told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he doesn't remember his exact words. He was being interviewed about health care by a Fox News reporter on Sunday when he was asked his opinion about Obama speaking in black churches.

Jackson said the comments were, in his words, "a side light in a broader conversation about urban disparities." Jackson was not aware that his microphone was still on.

He apologized Wednesday "for any harm or hurt that this hot mic private conversation may have caused" and said his support for Obama is "wide, deep and unequivocal." "

it looks like the Rev said Obama has "cut his [own] nuts off" with respect to him not standing up for black issues, the way many blacks think he should.

or something to that effect. at least that's how this white kid from the 'burbs sees it.

"His comments triggered condemnation from an unexpected source: Rep. Jesse L. Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), Jackson's son.

In a statement released by his office, Jackson Jr. said he was 'deeply outraged and disappointed in Rev. Jackson's reckless statements about Sen. Barack Obama.'

'His divisive and demeaning comments about the presumptive Democratic nominee -- and I believe the next president of the United States -- contradict his inspiring and courageous career,' the congressman said.

'Rev. Jackson is my dad and I'll always love him,' he said. 'He should know how hard that I've worked for the last year and a half as a national co-chair of Barack Obama's presidential campaign. So I thoroughly reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric. He should keep hope alive and any personal attacks and insults to himself.'"

hooksaw, why do you insist on putting "Reverend" in quotes everytime you mention Rev. Jesse Jackson.

you sound like an ignorant retarded hillbilly.

the man is an ordained Baptist Minsiter, attended Chicago Theological Seminary, was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Theology from that institution (which is part of the United Church of Christ, by the way), and earned his Masters in Divinity.

so what, exactly, is your trip?

i mean, why dont you just tattoo "Damn I really really hate Jesse Jackson" on your fucking forehead okay?

or are you going to start putting quotes around EVERY SINGLE minister of every religion. Like "Pastor" John Hagee. or "Archbishop" Desmond Tutu. or, how about His "Holiness" the Dalai Lama.

^ Is it okay with you if I don't find Jackson saying he'd like to cut off Obama's nuts very Reverend-like? Why won't you help to stop this black-on-black hate?

And concerning "Reverend" Wrong, I didn't find his "ridin' dirty" (humping the pulpit)--among a number of other unfortunate incidents and comments--to be very Reverend-like.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=_Xb7AVw_no0

So, which part of this don't you understand? Or is it that you just don't want to understand? And for the record, concerning this issue, you sound like a Left Coast nancy boy.

Ah, it's just like old times, isn't it?

Jesse is just pissed because he is no longer very important to America and the black community...the only way he gets any pub now is to say stupid stuff like this. His time has come and gone.

Maybe the left will start to realize this and start disregarding him like the rest of us did years ago. Stuff like this will only hurt Obama.

dude, you've been putting their title in quotation marks for the past couple years.

now, let me give you a clue. for free, okay? just 'cause i like you.

"Reverend" is a professional title. it's earned by a combination of graduate-level education and being ordained into an established ministry. Its like "doctor" or "professor" or "professional engineer" or "counselor" or "attorney" or "judge".

as such, professional titles are NOT conditional on whether or not YOU personally approve of them.

now how about you address the substance of the issues instead of playing little semantic name-calling games like some bitchy little sophomoric cunt.

Congratulations, schmoe! You have a firm grasp of the obvious. If you can show me what's "professional" about an alleged man of the cloth saying, among other things, he would like to cut another man's nuts off for supposedly talking down to black people, I'll buy your argument. If not, I invite you to piss off.

FWIW, the quotation marks at issue are meant ironically and in a nonliteral way. Given the circumstances and my intent, the usage is entirely appropriate.

BTW, I also found "Reverend" Jackson's fathering a child outside of his marriage to be, well, not in keeping with his title. And the list goes on.

good ole joe.

Jackson attended the Chicago Theological Seminary with the intent of becoming a minister, but dropped out in 1966 to focus full-time on the civil rights movement. He was ordained in 1968, without a theological degree; awarded an honorary theological doctorate from Chicago in 1990; and received his earned Master of Divinity Degree in 2000.

So he was GIVEN his honorary degree almost 30 yrs after he dropped out, and when his son was on the board of the seminary.

I know, youll instead choose to focus on the ordained minister part as if its something special. If you do believe that here is a website that you can become an ordained minister online. (I guess as long as your check doesnt bounce.)

oh, i don't know.

maybe for the same reasons hundreds of clergymen across the country are against removing the barriers that separate Church and State.

if there was ONE FUCKING THING that you could say was paramount in the minds of those who founded this country, wrote the Declaration of Independence and hammered out a Constitution... it was keeping Church and State separate.

the blending of Church and State was the root cause of all the problems of 18th century Europe, from which the American people were fleeing or otherwise rejecting -- physically, politically, and philosophically.

Quote :
"when church and state are separate, the effects are happy, and they do not at all interfere with each other: but where they have been confounded together, no tongue nor pen can fully describe the mischiefs that have ensued.

--Rev. Issac Backus, Baptist Minster, 1773 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Backus)

i really enjoyed the NPR piece about this yesterday. They guy they interviewed basically said that blacks don't know what to do now because there might be a black president and they couldn't complain any more. Good work, man, revealing that blacks just complain about everything.

I'm just curious as to what a black president would have to do in order to be labeled an Uncle Tom and lose the black vote as an incumbent.
