Hey guys,
My parents have a 94 chevy suburban that they use everyday. The transmission was replaced about a year ago. This is what happens...
When she goes to work. The transmission won't shift out of second gear, unless she takes her foot off of the gas and lets the engine's rpm down to about 1300 or so. Then it will shift to third and then so on to 4th and 5th with no problem. When she gets off of work to drive home it won't shift out of second gear at all no matter what she does.
Suggestions? Money is tight right now for them (pops just got a new job) and I wanted to see what your thoughts were before she took it to a mechanic. I don't think this has anything to do with the transmission (mechanical wise) it runs and shifts pretty soundly (when it shifts that is).
Thanks guys.

So I was reading up about this, and you pretty much have to rip the whole drive train out to get to this thing. I guess they'll have to take it to a tranny shop.

^^^yep. a lot of times the same old electronics get thrown back in too. most of these bargain rebuild shops throw in a cheap converter/clutches/bands/seals, steam or chemically clean the housing, and let it ride. lasts just long enough to get out of their 1yr/12k warranty. 7/14/2008 5:50:13 PM |

^ yea I kind of figured that that was the case, unless you go to a decent mechanic. 7/15/2008 8:18:03 AM |
