what a waste of money
7/14/2008 8:38:07 AM
I don't know that this republic thing is working out, can't we put this shit up for the public to line-item-veto?
7/14/2008 8:41:06 AM
Thanks, Bob.
7/14/2008 8:43:47 AM
kinda cool, can't really make a judgment til i see it in person.
7/14/2008 8:44:23 AM
its pretty cool looking...idk how much it costs but i think its pretty neat
7/14/2008 8:47:05 AM
it looks sweet- i gotta go see it before i leave!
7/14/2008 8:49:15 AM
i love it!
7/14/2008 8:55:57 AM
7/14/2008 8:57:32 AM
I think it's a neat idea and can't wait to see it.^it could be worse. I visited a town in Korea that had a LED rainbow bridge V that's fucking awesome, but people are still going to bitch about it either way ]

This is in a different league than time+light. First of all, it actually looks good.I'll reserve final judgment until I've seen it in person, but I think this is a variant of the "good" kind of public art.
7/14/2008 9:01:46 AM
If they ever stop ruining downtown with construction, I think this will probably be worth it.
7/14/2008 9:02:30 AM
that's pretty hot.....don't get why everyone's bitching about being expensive when I'm pretty sure no one here knows how much it cost. Besides, it's improving our downtown area; I'm all for it
7/14/2008 9:02:44 AM
me and cody saw this yesterday actually.looked at it for like 25 seconds said 'pretty cool'and that was it.really pretty though[Edited on July 14, 2008 at 9:05 AM. Reason : ^well we know it's over 1 million]
7/14/2008 9:04:45 AM
3^ still a waste of money. I didn't say who's money, but someone's.
7/14/2008 9:05:13 AM
It'd probably be a little more interesting to you if you didn't live in Raleigh.
7/14/2008 9:05:29 AM
^ i thought that too
7/14/2008 9:06:14 AM
It was >$1 million, and even if it was privately donated, it's still a waste of money. Why doesn't anyone have the good sense to pull these companies aside and say, "Look, we don't need any shitty pixelated artwork. What we need are bike trails. $1 million would pave a lot of bike trails."
7/14/2008 9:06:44 AM
marketing ppl, jesusnow this company gets promoted everytime somebody talks about how the thing was payed for..
7/14/2008 9:07:51 AM
you engineers have NO FUN.You also go to a school that is completely covered in brick.I'm not one of those bleeding heart liberals to say "ooooh...preeeeeeeeeeeeettyyyyy colors...." but at the same time, if you travel around to the greatest cities in the world, they've all spent $TEXAS on some crazy ass design work. When I was in belgium they had a huge brass sculpture that stood several stories tall- INSIDE the airport. It had no function, it was just cool to look at. The Duomo in Firenze? No function- in fact- they built that thing for god ....you don't hear the romans saying "god?? what a waste of cash".Public art makes our city more attractive- and to relate that back to you, our valued personality-free engineering students, that's good for the economy. And I don't know if you've noticed lately, but our economy is really taking a beating. Everything has its purpose. You must appreciate the effort our city is putting in to our downtown area to boost our own standard of living.
7/14/2008 9:08:06 AM
I bet they could sell ad space for $texas too.
7/14/2008 9:08:53 AM
$1 million dollars is a drop in the bucket to add a little much needed culture and flair to the city.

"A hater's job is to hate, its to hate, so let them do their job. If you got 14 haters you need to worry how to get to 16 before next week. If there's any haters out there that don't have anyone to hate, then hate on me and feel free to say my Kush ain't the best in the land when you know it is."

I think it looks neat... i see it every day and when they were installing it i was like "huh, i wonder how it's going to look"
7/14/2008 9:28:09 AM
i see it on a pretty regular basis, and i think it's awesome...i'm NOT especially artsy, but i dig it[Edited on July 14, 2008 at 9:33 AM. Reason : NOT]
7/14/2008 9:29:46 AM
it looks cool but i dont know how effective it will actually be. if it was smaller and used for a courtyard entrance where all the effects are seen a little better, I think that would be best
7/14/2008 9:34:08 AM
7/14/2008 9:35:29 AM
7/14/2008 9:36:56 AM

7/14/2008 9:39:09 AM

7/14/2008 9:56:46 AM
So angry, so black...
7/14/2008 9:58:51 AM
ok, I'm on board now that I know it was funded through a private donation.Raleigh doesn't have enough public art in the first place.
7/14/2008 10:00:37 AM
They probably wouldn't be complaining if it were pubic art.
7/14/2008 10:02:30 AM
^wait, what?
7/14/2008 10:04:50 AM
There was no typo in the above reply.
7/14/2008 10:06:30 AM
so you're saying it's not art? don't be an idiot.
7/14/2008 10:08:28 AM
I wasn't saying it's not art at all.
7/14/2008 10:10:56 AM
cue vague answer # 3
7/14/2008 10:11:47 AM
