http://www.gametrailers.com/game/9022.html

So finally Bioware is finally ready to show the spiritual successor to, imo, the greatest RPG of all time.
Those clips on gametrailers didn't really do much for me, however this screenshot alone shot this game to damn near the top of my most wanted games list.

That's fucking Baldur's Gate!!!!!!!!!!

wow that does look good. i wish they'd title it something a little less generic than 'dragon age'.

I didn't know anything about it or that it looked this good. Seems stupid but still.

This game looks sweet. Too bad it's not going to be ported to the console for some time. My wife was looking for a Baldur's Gate type of game that we can play together. But this looks like it's going to be single player and maybe multiplayer online only.

So this comes out in November for PS3, 360 and computer

I've read some great things it seems cool, but its getting very little hype

I'm thinking of preordering to get a lot of the related bonuses, inlcluding some that are tied into the new Mass Effect coming out next year

Looks cool as shit

"Dragon Age Journeys Available Today
Playing browser-based will unlock items in upcoming Dragon Age: Origins.

EA 2D is set to release Dragon Age Journeys today, a browser-based tactical RPG based on the upcoming Dragon Age Origins. If you're interested in picking up Origins, you might want to check it out -- there are prizes in it for you.

According to a Q&A in the Dragon Age Journeys developer's blog, "By completing certain accomplishments in Journeys, you can unlock 3 items for use when you purchase a copy of Dragon Age: Origins for the PC, Xbox 360 or PS3."

"By playing DAJ while signed in with your EA account, these items will automatically be added to your inventory in DA:O when you sign in with that same account. These entitlements work across all three platforms."

The flash-based tactical RPG was created by Daniel Stradwick, who previously worked on the web-based strategy RPG The Monster's Den. Like it's more advanced sibling, it features character classes and talent trees, as well as a similar interface.

Along with the recently released character creator, Dragon Age Journeys should keep you busy until the game's official release on November 3. You can download the first of three chapters here at noon PST.

Apparently PC Gamer UK gave it a 94 and called it the RPG of the decade.

Quote :
""I've not only been to huge cities but I've learned their past, their present and been involved in shaping their future. This hasn't felt like passing through a series of checkpoints but having experienced a world. I know enough about the religion of the Chantry to preach their own Chants. My connection to the Grey Wardens is palpable and the part I played an honourable one.

This is the most enormously detailed game world I've experienced, its history stretching back thousands of years, its cultures vivid, beautiful and flawed, the battles enormous, the humour superb. Roleplaying games now have a great deal to live up to.

A truly astonishing game. Vast, vivid and microscopically detailed. Dragon Age is the RPG of the decade." "

Not playing Fallout 3 when you own it is a waste of money. I can't really call it anything worse than that, though, because compared to most RPGs Bioware makes, Fallout 3 was pretty far below mediocre.

Unfortunately, Bethseda gives a shitty name to Western RPGs in general... they'd be a great studio, too, if they could just learn how to script dialog, hire decent voice actors, and include some meaningful content outside of the (excessively short) main story lines of their games... as opposed to just more empty and pointless shit to explore in their huge environments.

As for the thread topic, Dragon Age... I'm reluctant to buy it when it comes out, because I want to continue attending classes for the rest of this semester... but if I get it at Christmas time, then I'll be ruining the beginning of my next semester... I could always try not becoming immediately addicted to it, but I doubt that plan would hold up.

Oh, I'm sure it'll work. There was never any question about that. Bioware is making this, after all.

It would just work a lot differently.

I didn't get a chance to watch much of the PC version quick look video, so I really didn't see much gameplay, but I would expect that they'd include some sort of vaguely-RTS-style click-and-drag or multi-character command system for the PC version, which really isn't as easy to implement on a console. If they don't... well, I for one will be somewhat disappointed... but I really don't see why they wouldn't do that when given the capabilities.

And on an unrelated note, I am a bit disappointed that the combat bar on the PC version is basically directly emulating World of Warcraft. Seems like a sort of mass-customer-appeal cop out when they could have just as easily used the (in my opinion) far better-looking and more functional command bar of their older PC RPGs. Then again, I could be completely wrong on this, and it may very well be possible to include buttons on the bar that aren't just different types of attacks (like Forced Talk, Stop, Forced Attack, and stuff like that), such that it essentially looks just like the command bar from Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. ...What seems more likely, though, is that those sort of actions end up on some kind of hotkey or shift-click/ctrl-click system (though I for one would rather use the direct clicking method). Ideally, we'll have the option to be able to do it both ways. And of course this is all speculation, since I've never played the game. For all I know, they've completely let me down and not included a Forced Attack command at all.

pretty sure the industry standard is to "copy what works"

why keep trying to reinvent something if it is already widely accepted as a certain way?
