this is so chit chatty, tech talk doesnt wanna hear this bs. and im sure its a quick fix, we just don't have any info to work with

im hanging at a buddy's place, him and his wife just switched from DSL and their cable keeps going to what looks like a screensaver mode... and when you hit a key to resume, it says "hit 'A' to deavtivate" or something... then when you hit that, it goes to that "enter pin" screen with the 4 squares.

so what they say they've been doing is just unplugging it and plugging it back in. and it bypasses the default built in parental control stuff. but thats a pain to do EVERY TIME the channel or show changes... so i'm wondering if anyone knows what the default passcode is.. like 1234 or 0000 or something? i havent tried anything cause i'd hate to cause their box to lock up

with my experience with TWC customer service, i feel this will be 100 times quicker. thanks tww have a great weekend!

Its 0000, and yeah, its ridiculous that you can turn off parental lock, yet still have to enter a parental lock pin every freaking time.

Disabling Purchase PIN

1. Press the SETTINGS button on your remote control to display the Quick Settings menu, and then press the A button to display the General Settings menu.

2. Press the UP or DOWN arrow buttons to find Purchase PIN .

3. Press the SELECT button.

4. Press the UP or DOWN arrow buttons to choose ENABLE and press the SELECT button again.

5. Enter your 4-digit PIN number when prompted.

6. Press the A button to accept your choice. Your Purchase PIN is now disabled and purchasing does not require PIN entry.

mine comes on quite randomly. I even have it turned off in the main settings, but like once a month it comes across a show that pisses it off for some reason and makes me redo it...

btw ^

i'm gonna hijack this thread a little and ask this question:

how do you make the remote control the CABLE BOX volume? the cable guy who brought me a DVR set it up to ALWAYS control the TV volume and i do not want it set up that way. i tried to find some remote codes to fix it and came up with:

1) press and hold SELECT + CBL.
2) press 9 9 3.
3) change volume.

that works, but it doesn't save my settings. i hit CBL again and it goes right back to changing the TV volume. i really don't want to get put on hold for an hour just to fix this. please help!
