because they're not eco friendly.
Quote : | "Desperate measures: Toni Vernelli was steralised at age 27 to reduce her carbon footprint
Incredibly, so determined was she that the terrible "mistake" of pregnancy should never happen again, that she begged the doctor who performed the abortion to sterilise her at the same time.
He refused, but Toni - who works for an environmental charity - "relentlessly hunted down a doctor who would perform the irreversible surgery.
Finally, eight years ago, Toni got her way.
At the age of 27 this young woman at the height of her reproductive years was sterilised to "protect the planet".

While that is pretty crazy, babies have a HUGE carbon footprint. But, you could always go nazi-recycler (like I seem to be becoming) and it would be much less.

is that true ? i don't know. i don't really want kids either, but mostly because its just a huge responsibility and you have to be in great financial condition and in a MARRIAGE that you know will last. but 50% of all marriages end in divorce so its a crap shot. i am firm in this though i know the best woman to marry is either a very god-fearing and pious woman and this is a rarity in the U.S. i think marrying an un-American woman is probably the best scenerio for a lasting marriage.7/16/2008 10:22:52 PM |

I don't think that VHEMT will ever succeed.
1) The people who practice this are probably intelligent, and therefore would not produce intelligent offspring who can "save the earth"
2) The people who won't practice the philosophy, most likely by means of stupidity and ignorance, will continue to reproduce and dumb down the human race] 7/16/2008 10:25:11 PM |

Some people just don't want kids.
As to not having kids causing cancer, I'd say it's more likely the extra partying, drinking, smoking, and whatever else you do when you don't have a kid vs not having money or time for fun stuff that's bad for you once you spawn. 7/16/2008 10:30:24 PM |

intelligence is not entirely a heritable trait... (bunch of controversy on this subject actually)
I'd also question just how 'intelligent' the people who practice this are...7/16/2008 11:39:06 PM |

Supposing that it's not insanely cheaper to go with disposable diapers, I intend for my kids to be in cloth diapers. I may make said diapers, rather than going with a service, especially if I end up with twins, or we decide to have our kids close together.
I'll still use baby wipes, though...just easily biodegradable ones (e.g., 'septic safe' wipes)
It would really pain me to go the disposable route.
