My launch unit 360 got the RRoD yesterday for the first time.

Sucks.

I ordered that Team xecutor kit that's supposed to fix it. I hope it works. it was only $12.

MS extended all warranties for three years because of the problem and will fix it for free, and also send you a box to ship it and return it for free. They will also include 1 month of XBox Live for your trouble. Don't void your warranty, just call the support on their website.

I don't have the option to mail mine in. My original warranty expired so I replaced the case on mine (and made a couple of other modifications that would have voided it anyway).

THEN Microsoft extended the warranty. Of course since I had already taken mine apart, I didn't get that extension.

Oh well. Not having to pay for the games is worth it not being under warranty, I suppose.

My RRoD kit arrived in the mail today. Took about 25 minutes to install. Still had the RRoD when I booted it back up but I let it sit for 20 minutes (to supposedly let the soldier re-flow) then I turned it back off and on again. Booted up perfectly.

Best $12 I've ever spent in my life.

i've been thinking about getting a 360, but the only reason i want it is to mod it

and given it's failure rate and my luck, i'm not sure if that's a risk i'm willing to take

i assumed he was implying that games were not his primary concern, and using that as a basis, i suggested the orig xbx as an alternative because it can do all the media center stuff that the modded 360 can do minus the games themselves.

Well I ordered the xecutor kit from divineo. http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/zz-36-xsrk.html

But I have to say my joy with the kit was fairly short lived. I ended up getting the RROD again about a week later.

I did the x-clamp repair next and I believe it is now rock solid. $4 worth of parts from Lowes and a tube of Thermal paste and you should be good to go.

After seeing firsthand how easy it is to fix these things, I'm seriously considering getting into the xbox repair business. Buy a broken 360 on ebay for $50. Spend $5 and 20 minutes fixing it, sell it for $200. It's tempting.

i got the rrod after having my xbox for 2 weeks. turns out it was just a loose power cord. glad i didnt overreact and send it back when it was somethin so simple.
