steam tunnels at State
hopping on the slow moving trains down town

dropping acid and doing pretty much anything

I have a weakspot for Lake Johnson. Jogging around it, walking, going around the "other" side of it.

That's the Ligon family cemetary. I think I do remember seeing some 100 year old graves out there, but not much older, though there are plenty that aren't marked.

The Method community is old though. Meredith College was a slave plantation, and after emancipation, Method became a community of those freed slaves. It was as big as Cary at one point, and appeared on maps alongside Cary in the same size font.

When they were building #1/The Beltline, I guaranfuckingtee they chose the location because it was a black community and they could take the land/move graves/etc without much fuss.

Also, there's a house beside Hillsborough street and the railroad tracks, across from Meredith College, that dates to 1850. It could have been part of that plantation, I haven't really had time to look into it.

^there are several entrances to them. one is right across from the tunnel C-store. one is inside the free expression tunnel. to my knowledge, those have been locked. the entrance we always used was across from the coliseum deck.. it's a manhole hidden in the bushes. the tunnels run underneath campus. this was 4+ years ago, though, so who knows if you can get in them at all anymore.

^^ my mom tells me stories about how her and her friends used to go in the steam tunnels (back in the late 60s early 70s) and smoke pot( I know they did more but that is all she will own up to).. the tunnel adventures have been around a while

the sit-in camera obscura in the woods outside the art museum

you sit inside for about fifteen minutes, and this is what you see:
