goddamn i turn into a bitter asshole when im not getting laid on a regular basis.

1) restaurant accidentally double-charges me for dinner (two charges of 79.29 show up on my statement)
2) dispute one of the two charges, but AmEx refunds me for both charges
3) three months later, I get re-charged for 79.79 (50 cents more than the original charge)

fucking cocksuckers trying to steal my money.

I don't really get the 50 cents finance charge either. Never heard of that....and I've fixed plenty of double charges at a restaurant before. Sounds like Amex trying to pass the blame.

i thought it was amex, but they were able to look and see the charge was debited from my card again by the restaurant, just the restaurant typed in the wrong amount. i wouldn't mind paying the original charge of 79.29 because that's what i owe, but now because ive had to call amex twice about this place im gonna say i should get the whole meal complimentary. im a good amex customer, and they're going to take care of me on this. just i hate having to deal with shit like this

That's just ridiculous. Shit like this happens all the time at restaurants (and 90% of the time its not the restaurant's fault, its the POS system or the credit card system). The 50 cent thing is kinda dumb on their part (which I still don't get)....BUT ITS ALSO 50 CENTS. You seem to be one of the more level-headed persons on this site, so this is kind of surprising.

I understand if they make 1 mistake, but now they've made two. I'll gladly pay what I owe, but if they're going to continue to fuck around with me I'm going to fuck with them. 50 cents or 50 dollars, i don't care. it's the principle of the whole thing.

i had an amex blue cash, but have recently gotten the platinum card.

i bought a pair of headphones at best buy in one state and returned them to a best buy in another state. i ended up getting screwed out of something like 25 cents due to the difference in tax rate

i was pissed but decided the effort it would take to get my 25 cents back wasn't worth my time

they have great perks for cardholders. Out of the blue last year they gave me a $40 gift just because I paid my satellite bill with the card.

the better the card the better the perks and gifts. my dad has one of their centurion cards (i think) and they gave him a brand new canon digital camera because they made an error in sending him a letter or something.

its better than most cash-back cards. the rewards really kick in once you spend $6000.

all i really use now is my visa check card through wachovia

i figure if i just get a cash back rewards card i can use that and just pay it off monthly what i would have been paying anyway

how high are purchase APRs?

mine hovers around 9.99%. I always pay my balance off at the end of the month so they can jack it up to 30% and i don't give a shit.

if you're responsible, then using a credit card makes much more sense to me than a debit card. you're essentially given a month-long loan, spending someone else's money, and if you get rewards, you get paid to spend their money! plus, if there's a mistake or an overcharge, you're not financially effected by it because all your money is still in your account.

^^ yep, if you spend $500 in a month, you pay them only $500 and nothing more. It's different if you get a cash advance (using credit card at an atm or something like that), but for normal everyday charges, you don't pay a dime to have to use the card.

with the blue cash card, I'm over the $6k limit, so every time I buy gas, groceries, or medicine I get 5% back at the end of the year. I get 1.5% off on all other purchases, too.

it depends on your credit score, how much money you spend with them, and how good you are about paying them back. They are always increasing mine. When I became a cardholder back in 2003 I had a 3k limit. Now it's something absurd like 30k or 40k.

Today I got a phone call from a manager at AmEx. They wanted to know if my problem had been resolved. I told them no, and I was tired of dealing with this, and to just make sure I'm charged the correct amount only once. He apologized again, said the restaurant was still to blame, but since they haven't gotten anywhere and because I've been inconvenienced, AmEx said they will eat the charges and gave me a $100 credit to compensate me for my time spent on the phone

Platinum card FTW
