So after CBS nipped Jericho I swore them off for good.

Other than The Price is Right, we're talking about a 25+ year relationship I can't bring myself to throw away.

So I've seen the ads for this new show The Mentalist, and as someone who's a bit hypervigilant and observant I've gotta say I'm intrigued.

I'll at least check out the premiere, airing September 23rd.

Anyone else heard of this or find it interesting?

The first episode is out on the internets.

I wasn't really that impressed.

I give it a 6/10.

I thought the first episode was great, in fact I think it's been the best pilot shown so far this season.

i was intrigued after reading http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2008/09/24/the-mentalist-review/
downloaded the first episode, but haven't watched it yet

plus, how can you not like a show that flat out says in the promos "There are no such thing as psychics. Just people to pay attention." If a show like this actually catches on, it could be really great to counter all the other bullshit paranormal shows that pretend to be real

I didn't really see any of the ads for the show til the night before so I dvr'd.

I really liked it. I'll probably keep it on the dvr line up and see how it goes. The beginning case was excellent. Not really what I was expecting - in a good way.

it seems like they 100% stole the plot of Psych (from the commercials it does, i haven't actually watched the show)

Yeah, that's what I thought when I saw the commercials, then I watched about 15 minutes and I was sure.

It's Psych without the funny. Also, it sucks.

Psych >>> The Mentalist

I liked the actor in The Guardian or some such a few years ago on CBS

This thread inspired me to download all the episodes of Psych. I've watched the first 2 so far and...

This show looks stupid from the previews.

It seems like it's just some guy making assumptions based on stupid stereotypical shit.

I am sure there are straight guys out there that put clear nail polish on their toes.

funny or not, we need more skeptics and open atheists on the air. So.... he is certainly a skeptic, and hinted at the atheist too when he was talking with the "God's Kingdom" girl at dinner.

So now we're up to, what, two? House and this guy?

Yeah, but I think they are playing the atheism part more like, "My family got killed so I hate/don't believe in God anymore." so kinda meh

I don't think that's the case. He clearly knew he was a fraud from the beginning and it seemed he was only doing it for the money. It wasn't clear whether or not he was religious before his family was killed, but based on his profession at the time I'd have to say he either wasn't very religious or he wasn't religious at all.

Psych is more humor based and this show is more drama based. The basic concept has been done before but the shows are different. I'm amazed at how many people jump to the conclusion that the two shows are the same based solely on ads without having watched the show they're complaining about. I really like both shows.

LOL.. I said the same things about this show when I saw the previews. That it was like Psych's older brother or something. I <3 Psych, so I was skeptical of this. The first episode was actually pretty good, the one on the beach with "Flipper" was lame as hell. I'll still give it a shot to get better.

i just read on TVguide.com that they have ordered a full season for this show.

Quote :
"How psyched is CBS about The Mentalist? So much so that it has given it a full season order.

But who didn't see this coming? (No pun intended.) Averaging 16.14 million viewers, the Simon Baker-led drama, about a psychic-turned-cop, is the fall's top-rated new series in total viewers and in the 25-54 demographic.

Tuesday night's airing trumped Dancing with the Stars' result show 14.86 million to 14.37 million.

The Mentalist is the third freshman series to receive a season pick-up, following 90210 and Fringe.

fantastic show BTW, great time too, i flip to it right after watching House. The mentalist himself is really entertaining and funny. The ending, when he solves the case, really throws you for a loop sometimes.

psych is still funnier, but metalist is not to bad. the characters are funny. and simon baker rides that line between being a total know it all jerk and being funny.

its doesnt quite hit the must watch list but, its worth checking out.

Plus when watching it your first gut feeling on who guilty is normaly right no matter what twist and turns they take
