my vision isn't that bad, but since I couldn't read the smallest line of text at the DMV today the lady automatically told me to put on my glasses (which I don't normally need/use), so now I have to wear them, according to my license

for people wearing contacts, has a cop ever asked you if you had contacts in if it says you need them on your license?

I wear contacts and I've been asked twice.

Last time happened about 3 weeks ago.

My dad called me up once
"I got assaulted at work today, and they broke my glasses. Do you have a spare pair I can borrow for the drive to the eye dr? My license doesn't say I have to wear my corrective lenses."

yes, once at a road block. Looked fairly close at my eyeball to see if my contacts were in

Why would you want to drive impaired? Do you really want to take any chances when driving 3000 lbs of steel at high speeds while surrounded by idiots also driving 3000 lbs of steel at high speeds?

I'm not impaired, I can see fine without my glasses. I couldn't read the absolute smallest line on the eye chart. Last time I got my license reading the 3rd or 4th line was enough to pass, but this time she didn't even give me a chance to read the bigger lines without my glasses.

I baaaaaaaaarely passed the eye exam when I went to get my license. If I had to take it again today, I feel sure I would fail. Stupid desk job ruining my eyes

Ditto.

And I might as well not have my left eye. I just can't use it. I can sometimes tell colors, if I don't look directly at what I'm trying to discern (much like macular degeneration)

That eye tester thing? HAS A DIVIDER DOWN THE MIDDLE

"And the rest of the letters?"
"There are more letters? Hang on" *I move my right eye to the left eye spot"
"Miss, you can't do that"
"Uh, I can't read them otherwise...I mean, I didn't even know there was anything to read til you said so"

I was tearing up through this whole exchange, because I was 19 or 20, and I'd been fighting the DMV over this shit since high school. I get all the paperwork from the eye doctor saying that while my left eye is worthless, I am fine to drive, have corrected vision of 20/40 overall (corrected 20/20 in my good eye), and that I have a current prescription. But every time...oh no, that damn vision test.

I just kind of lost it, was like 'look, you'd have never known about my bad eye if not for that divider. doesn't that tell you that I can see just fine, overall? Here, give me something harder. Oh, and look at all these DMV forms filled out by my eye doctor'

She started telling me to hush and quiet down, and then twisted the eye thing so I could use my right eye on the left spot without it being obvious, and I got my license

I still feel really bad for having gotten something because I broke down into tears.

I can't see a thing without my contacts. Big color areas and that's about it.

No cop has ever asked me if I had them in though.
