how much effort does it take to record a game while you watch it, then put it on the comp and burn to dvd?

If you want the ENTIRE season, including the Monday Night game on ESPN, youll need to find someone who has invested in a $250-$400 piece of equipment.

Plus if they have to watch what they record, then you have to find someone who can stomach watching a full Panthers game every weekend. Im a fan, but their games are boring as fuck.

If I wasn't a Panthers fan, I'd never watch any of their games

They'd have the same interest for me that the Chiefs do now

you must not follow the Panthers if you think we'll go 6-10 this year

the Panthers will either go 11-5, 8-8 or 7-9

thats just what we do

they'll either go 6-10 or go to the superbowl and lose by 40. Just cause that's some carolina panther shit.

i thought htpcs were more advanced than tivos, that you can just set it and forget it for the whole schedule

that doesnt sound like much energy at all, i thought $75 was very generous

because the panthers always lose the super bowl by 40 points

last offer, still stands at $75 for something that you'd probably want to keep anyway (if we are good)

i provide the dvds, you just do the burning

I only have a vague idea about HTPCs and HD video, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the amount of recorded data will be bigger than either a single or dual layer disc can handle. Which means whoever does the recording will have to author the shrink to get it to fit on the disk. I'm not sure how soon you are wanting the games (weekly, or just archived for the entire year) but it would be much easier if you supplied a big eUSB drive and let someone copy the recordings to this for you. You might could get some takers at ~$100 for this, assuming they aren't slaved to the TV to get the recording.

Click #1 - record game, if you are watching it anyway this is a nonissue

Click #2 - use program to shrink to fit on disc (time consuming yes, but can be done right before you go to bed) there are a few possibilities like wmv-hd, divx hd, etc...i dont know what's quickest/smallest.

Click #3 - burn to disc

i would probably want the games once a month so 3-4 at a time

this would take 10 clicks max, and like i said if you do it before bed you wont even notice the time consuming parts

No shit right? Because people don't hop around while a game is going on for various reasons.

I ripped and burned quite a few DVDs in my time. These are ~10gb and it would take ~1hr on my machine in some instances to fit to a single layer. I did some googling, I found this

Quote :
"One hour of HDV 1080i is about 13GB.
One hour of HDV 720p is about 8 or 9GB."

I'm trying to find something about how long the conversion takes, and a post on some random site from this past may (ie, I'd assume his computer isn't ancient) says it takes him 4hrs per 1hr to convert from 720p to H.264. So, if someone wanted to use their machine in the morning, they'd be dealing with their CPU being loaded with this task.

Just sayin. 75 bones aint shit for what you are asking. But a huge eUSB drive and I think you'll get some takers.

If I can secure a group's release for every game, I might be willing to convert each for you but if you want uncompressed 720/1080p then it's out of the question.

if you have Time Warner you might just want to invest (additional monthly fee) in a HD DVR

if somebody was gonna burn the DVDs it seems like you wouldn't be able to watch the games nearly as soon as you wanted..I seriously doubt you want to wait until after the season is over to watch the games
