Got some vacation time built up that I need to use before school starts and I leave this job and lose it. Thinking about going camping. Looking for a place that has camp sites that are semi-private, but easy to get to, in a perfect world, camp sites that you can drive to that are surrounded by trees. Does Jordan Lake or Falls Lake have anything like this? 7/27/2008 5:23:08 PM |

county line camping area sites 72 and upwards are pretty woodsy, you can drive in, they are on the water.
grew up camping on county line, (our fav site was 65) 7/27/2008 5:31:52 PM |

jordan has some nice spots. crosswinds and poplar point are the ones i've been, they are right off 64 so they're pretty close. also, there are a tons of spots, all you have to do is drive through and find one that you like and you can park right on it. they do close the gates at night though, i think its at 11 in the summer but im not sure. 7/27/2008 6:00:37 PM |

That sounds perfect. I didn't even think about Kerr Lake and it's only 15 minutes further.

Was at Kerr Lake last week. Had a great time, anchored the boat right beside our campsite and had an awesome view. I not sure how many campsites there are on the lake but we camp up by the dam (I think it's North Bend). Make sure you reserve a good site on the water because they fill up quickly this time of the year. 7/27/2008 9:48:42 PM |

lies, we all know you don't camp Jessie. haha.
As for reserving places at Kerr Lake, you have to reserve it for a minimum of 7 days, I'm only planning like 3 or 4.7/28/2008 5:48:41 PM |

Thanks again for the Kerr Lake recommendation brainysmurf. Just got home from 4 nights at County Line site 50. It was a prefect relaxing few days of me, my cousin, and nature. Other than the sunburns I got and the huge storm that got sand all in my sleeping bag Thursday night it was an awesome time. I never realized how sandy it was up there. Almost like going to the beach. 8/3/2008 9:57:16 PM |

falls lake has some really nice camping. a little strict. no alcohol or fireworks and you have to camp in designated spots - ours was gravel covered ... not terrible with an air mattress 6/9/2014 2:32:50 PM |

is it just falls that doesn't allow alcohol, or all non-beach NC parks? 6/9/2014 4:39:15 PM |

It's a nonissue at falls as long as you're being good and not flaunting open containers 6/10/2014 10:14:30 AM |

Yeah, I'm pretty sure those laws are in place to prevent drunk idiots from getting too stupid and trashing the park... 6/10/2014 10:28:09 AM |

I have imbibed at Jordan Lake on a camping trip in the past, but it was usually a late night drink after a long day. Never done that shit out in the open during daylight.
Also was at Vista Point this weekend camping and close to midnight we heard a fucking airboat cruising up and down the cove behind the campsite. They had a generator running a set of really bright lights. Not sure if they hunting, poaching, etc. Anybody ever seen one of those on Jordan Lake?

Yeah, I have drank in the evening, and would again in the future. But I'd try not to be too stupid about it, put it in a cup, and take everything out with me that I brought in (except the recycled alcohol, I'd leave that there). 6/10/2014 10:48:02 AM |

Yea usually have a cooler in a tent or the car/truck and drink from a cup. Again I don't think its a big deal if you have 1-2 and don't bother anybody or trash the place. But when you are a trashy drunk who is shitfaced at 2 am yelling and disturbing the neighboring campsites, then you ruin it for responsible drinkers. KKTHXU. 6/10/2014 11:22:17 AM |

Be warned, I have gotten "caught" twice with this method. They usually just take your beer, but they know that almost everyone on the lake/around it probably have alcohol.
The first time it happened, the rangers even smelled our cups. And neither incident involved my group being noisy or bothering anyone.]6/10/2014 11:32:16 AM |

yeah I have been caught as well. Ranger saw a beer can through the white trash bag then requested to look in our coolers. Made me pour out the 2 cans we had left. The kicker was this was a Sunday afternoon (we were staying until monday) and the WHOLE campsite had cleared out except for us. Let's not forget the fact that when we arrived on Friday it was like a tailgate out there. Open containers in koozies (not even Solo Cupped) just blatantly walking around the loop. They aren't gonna go out there and bust people when the loop is full but come snoop through my campground when everyone else is gone.
So this past time last week we were super stealth. Mini cooler INSIDE our clothes bags, inside the tent. solo cupped everything. Empty cans went into the spare tire well of the car. Any shots we did we immediately washed the cup out.
I understand why the laws are in effect, however, just like tailgating at the fairgrounds, it's annoying when they pick and choose how they are gonna bust when they know that pretty much EVERYONE out there on a friday night has alcohol. 6/10/2014 1:31:08 PM |
